Info on MediCann?

Has anyone had experience with the medicann clinics and are the cards they issue only for their own dispenseries? Any info is greatly appreciated.

I'm in northern calif~~and our medicann clinic here is great~~they issue
you your card and from there you go the clubs with drivers license (ID),
and the clubs give you their card~~show 'em your medicann card 2~~
you ought to have no problems~~jus remember medicann is jus
where you get your license~~they should refer you to local clubs~~

Ya know Kit~~I'm not actually sure if it would be the Califonia state one
or not~~but it does say on the back of mine~~"this is a legal representation
of a medical marijuana recommendation written a licensed physician under
California Heath Safety code 1136.5~~so see it does say health and safety code~~
but health department I'm not sure~~California card prolly a good thing to get 2~~

I work for Medicann (marketing.)
the Medicann card is a wallet sized representation of your rec...
it is not the state card, or OCBC card. those are all third party verification cards that are in NO WAY required by the law... to be able to legaly obtain and cultivate your medication, all you need is the dr's recomendation

I'm afraid I can no longer recommend Medicann. In the prior year, I would have been a strong supporter of them. However, without any notification of any kind, and ONLY after they got my money, did I discover that Medicann will no longer work with OCBC. Had Medicann clearly stated they will not work with OCBC, I would have NEVER given them my money. I am not the only person that has had this experience. A few of us have the opinion they are more interested in getting your money than supporting their patients needs.

Personally, this is a big problem for me. Medicann should have CLEARLY stated they won't work with OCBC BEFORE taking my money. After calling Medicann and telling them I would give them whatever release they required to allow them to give OCBC my medical information, they still refused. They also refused to refund any portion of my money. The support person was also quite rude.

OCBC tells me Medicann is the only Doctor that refuses to work with them. Go figure that one out. Find another place to get your recommendation!

Medicann is not a dispensary. However, if you want an OCBC card, and you authorize Medicann to validate your medical information to OCBC, be advised Medicann will NOT honor your request. People need to know this before they give their hard earned money to Medicann.

There are other people that have had the same experience with me. In their reivews, they too felt Medicann was only interested in getting their money.

If Medicann refuses to comply with my request & authorization to release my medical information, they are not someone I want to call my doctor. Aren't these records suppose to be MY medical records? Medicann tells me they are a private business and therefore they are not required to release my medical information even though I am the one requesting the information. What kind of support is that?

You will be better off finding another doctor that will respect your requests.

So you paid them money for a doctor's review of your situation, and they give you an official recommendation, but the rec isn't good at OCBC? You should receive a letter of recommendation from the doctor and you should be able to take it to any dispensary in the state to buy medicine. Or what??

I have been to over 200 dispensaries in CA... at this time I know of 2 dispensaries and 1 delivery service in the state that require you have a third party verification... The Medicann offices do have a sign on the front desk saying that we will not verify for the OCBC... THIS IS TO PROTECT PATIENT INFORMATION... I ask: why do people think they need to pay for third party verification? there is no need to get an OCBC card... your information IS protected at Medicann by the HIPPA laws

in my experience (I have been to almost every club in CA.) you need to keep your Doctors reccomendation... I have never obtained an OCBC card or Statet card... I use my Doctors reccomendation...

So are both accepted/acknowledged by law enforcement or the judicial system in the case of contact with them?

Medicann is NOT accepted everywhere. In Oakland, I went to Purple Heart with my brand new Medicann card & rec, only to be told they don't accept Medicann. Medicann gives a website, pcfrm.org, which lists the dispensaries that accept Medicann. I have no idea how often they update it, though.
I've yet to hear if law enforcement recognize Medicann or not. Oakland police are supposed to recognize the OCBC card, so they won't do anything to you if your caught medicating. Basically everything is really up in the air at this point, since medical cannibas is still in the infancy stage and regulations haven't been ironed out yet.

What I tell other prospective patients is if you want to save money, are already familiar with your conditions & treatments, and don't mind not having access to as many dispensaries as possible, go with Medicann. The Medicann card is NOT the same as the 'state-issued' card, it's simply the same as the recommendation letter.
If you really want a quality healthcare experience, avoid Medicann and go to another physician who specializes in cannabis recommendations. You're more likely to get helpful info regarding the use of cannabis for your specific conditions.
Getting a card, like OCBC, is not required. Any card, whether 'state-issued' or not, doesn't guarantee protection during a police encounter for using your meds. It depends on the local laws/acceptance, and how self-righteous the officer is.
