I am a nursing student and am writing a paper on the ethical issues of medical marijuana. I just wanted to know who on this site uses pot for chronic pain, and what disease prossess is causing you the pain. If it works/does not work, if you are prescribed it or not. Also if anyone is using it for nausea or appitite stimulant, works/does not, prescribed it or not. also if anyone else is using it for any other cause and if it is prescrbed to you as well. also i would like to know how long it took you to get the prescription and how your doctor felt about it, and what state you are in and anything else you would like to share about your experience. All information that is given will be kept confidential, no names, screen names or e-mails will be used, the only personal information i will use is the state that you are from. thanks for any input.
peace

I use medical marijuana for nausia and chronic pain. When I get a free moment at work, Ill write up a full description in this thread. EXCELLENT choice for an ethics in medicine paper. ALso do a google search for O'SHAUGHNESSY'S. It's a quarterly journal of the Cailfoirnia Cannabis Rsearch Medical Group, and they are a scholarly medica journal that discusses professional medical issues and proceedures which you may find usefull.

VWhippie,
In March of 2003, about 3 months after returning home from basic Training for the US Army, I was diagnosed with a degenerative corneal disease called keratokonus. I was 21. Since then, my disease has progressed and spread to my other eye rapidly, as KC (short for keratokonus) is known to do. Some of the symptoms of this disease that I experience are lack of depth perception, zero night vision, double/triple vision, halos around lights, and the biggest side affect, extreme sensitivity to any light, especially sunlight and any fluorescent lights. When any harmful light gets into my eyes (I wear dark, polarized sunglasses day or night, indoors and out, unless the lights have been subdued or altered to comfortable levels), I will begin to feel extremely sick and nauseous, with throbbing headaches following if I don’t get out of the light. My energy depletes to zero, and I would pass out, or feel sick to the point of vomiting. The only treatment for my disease is a corneal transplant, which wouldn’t even cure it, but would improve my vision considerably. SO there I was, a 21 year old guy fresh out of the army, unable to even step foot in the sunshine without wearing dark glasses and a hat, and suffering bad headaches and extreme nausea whenever I DID venture out. I became extremely depressed and lethargic. The only time I felt happy, had the only time headaches and nausea weren’t a constant and daily experience for me, was when I smoked marijuana id buy off the black or street market. It was always of different quality, and I never knew which kind I was getting (As marijuana has different species and strains, which have separate and distinct effects). Living in California, I decided to do some research and look up the medical marijuana laws, and discovered I qualified. I located a doctor in San Francisco, as that’s where the movement was biggest when I was looking, and got my recommendation from him. Since then, I have located closer doctors not afraid to recommend (they can not legally prescribe) alternative medication. Without medical marijuana, I’d have to live in fear and live as a criminal for relieving the nauseating and chronic effects of my incurable corneal disease. I’d also have to live in constant pain, as marijuana is the only thing that makes it possible for me to co-exist and interact with my friends and family in areas outside of my house, as medical marijuana eliminates, temporarily, the nauseating effects I feel from the sun. With medicinal marijuana, I am protected under the law, and I am able to buy appropriate strains of marijuana that will help the specific symptoms of my disease from a reputable and handicap accessible club. Feel free to ask me any more questions in this forum. -PM |
