Re: Medical Marijuana patient's please introduce yourself's.

Have told this story before so here is the shortened version.

I was diagnosed with MS way back in 1972 before they had MRIs and I didn't want to confirm it with a spinal tap. I've had exasperations since then but minor, annoying things. Perhaps they were minor because of my marijuana indulgence (from the age of 14.. now 54).

Then in 2004 my short-term memory started messing up on me.. another of the many exasperations of MS. I worked in a high stress job (sales manager in car biz) and had to leave that job and retire. Got my rec in 04 when I got an MRI that verified my MS.

I've been married three times. Have two kids.. 29 and 25. My greatest accomplishment, the kids. Born in Canada, have lived in Wyoming and Montana where I cowboyed. Then to Socal.. car biz.. then Norcal and a new woman.. right. What took me so fucking long?

I am not only a medical marijuana patient in los angeles california, but also a pharmacist i would recommend getting legal to anyone that qualifies! i was a patient before i worked at the store but i find it helps so many different types of people young and old from chronic pain to being paralyzed and needing help to cope with reality but none the less i feel that its one of the greatest bills that have passed through the senet!

Re: Medical Marijuana Patient's Please Introduce Yourselves

I'm not a card carryin' MMJ patient, but I hope that doesn't exclude me. My state doesn't yet have the heart, brains or the courage to make that option available. But I began thinking of it as medicine about 10 yrs ago. In 99 I was finally "awarded" my disability. I have Hep C, diabetes, periperal neuropathy in my hands & feet, arthritis, chronic pain in my legs, back and hips. Sometimes my body is just one big ache. I finally was given a power wheelchair about 6 months ago. For 3 yrs I almost never went outside or away from the house before I got the chair. I honestly don't think I'd be alive if it wasn't for Marijuana. The depression was almost unbearable. I lost 150 lbs in a year. Last Nov. I told my wife that after the kids came from cal. for the holidays I was planning on ending it all about the middle of janurary. I had a stash of pills saved up and was ready to do it. She suggested that if I was that bad would I try anit-depressants. I figured what to hell. I went to a doctor for the first time in almost 6 yrs. I was fed up with them. They would tell me that my conditions were usually treated with such and such a drug, but that because of my liver they couldn't give them to me. It worked, and those thoughts are gone. I wish marijuana woulda been enough, but it wasn't, but it kept me goin, and helps to keep me goin now. It wasn't and isn't a cure all but it is a great help. It relaxes the mind and muscles and lessens the pain. I have a Rx for pain now, but don't take it often because I'm trying to protect my liver as much as I can. I also have insomnia due to the different conditions and the same liver problems stop me from using sleeping pills, the marijuana helps with that. I actually lost some of the pain when I lost the depression, a nice surprize. Since getting the power chair I get out now. I've been camping several times this summer thanks to the help of one of my brothers and two of my nephews. Theres a local event called Schwagstock that happens about once a month from spring through halloween. Lotsa great music and kind people. (will post details and link soon) I've camped there 4 times this summer for 4-5 days each time. Life is worth living again. I plan to start getting politically active again, soon. If not for the marijuana I would be taking more pain pills and doing more liver damage, thus shortening my life. Thanks for being here and giving support to myself and others. Be Free!

Re: Medical Marijuana Patient's Please Introduce Yourselves

My name is Thepurplem0nkey. I am 25 (this friday LOL) year old pivacey advocate (no names, no pics LOL) as well as a medical MJ patient.
In 2001, I joined the California Army National Guard. I served for almost 4 years until I began having problems aiming my weapon. No matter what I tried, I was unable to focus on the ghost rings of the M-16. After the Army doctors diagnosed me as having a cross eye, somethig I had never been diagnosed with in my 21 years (at the time) of life, I decided to have a civillian doctor take a look at me. The civi doc diagnosed me with a degenerative cornea disease in the left eye, a diseae that 99% of the time spreads to the other eye. Several doctors later confirmed my diagnosis and after a long battle with the military (that involved opening a congressional hearing thanks to my state senator), I was finaly medicaly discharged, the degenerative cornea disease having spread to my right eye as well.
I don't think anyone can udnerstand the mental and physical impact of losing your vision at 22 until they have gone through it. I was a very active individual, and now I couldnt even leave the house without having blinding, searing pain in my eyes....no, the BACK of the eyes, if you can comprehend that....due to the hypersensitivity to light my disease caused. I'd feel sick to my stomach any time light leeked into my eyes, and I became blind at night so I culd not drive or navigate at night. Headaches, sore eyes, nausea, depression....all symptoms or side effects of my seemingly overnight disability.
I suffered this way for months, and was depressed for months as well, as it seemd at 22 my youth was over. Then, I began reading up on Prop 215, and discovered I was a candidate for medicinal marijuana. After visiting a compassionate doctor, I began using marijuana to relieve the nausea and pain I feel on a daily basis, and have been using it ever since to treat my incurable disease. Although I had always been a recrational smoker of pot, life has a weird way of working as pot became the ONLY medicine that alleviated my pain and suffering.
I became a "pot activist" when my grandfather was diagnosed with colon cancer. VERY quickly, he began to weaken into a quarter of the man he was. Despite taking disgusting liquid medication that was supposed to induce appetite, that medicin DID NOT WORK, and my grandfather lost all appetite, food tasted bland, and my family just watched him wither away into nothingness; into someone who looked like a halaucaust survivor. After begging my mother to shed her bias against marijauna, I called my grandfatehrs physician and asked if I could administer medicinal marijauna to him. I got the OK (which made it legal) and began administering the medicine to my grandfather via tincture. The result was almost immediate. He became happy, jovial, lively....and more importantly, he ate food. He gained pound after pound, and eventualy was ale to come home. Medical marijuana bought my grandfather 6 more months of life. I am certain he would have passed that week had I not administered medical marijuana to him. Those 6 months were a treasure to me and I am eternaly grateful for them. I would never have had those additional 6 months if it weren't for medical marijuana.
My activism progressed with my grandmother. My grandmother suffered a bad fall 15 years ago, which resulted in two of her spinal plates to be fused together. This has caused her to suffer great pain, in her back all the way down to her toes, for the past 15 years. SHe has been on a strict regiment of pain pills for that entire time. Having seen the benefits to my grandfather, and having been inspired by Montel Williams, my grandmother asked me to acquire some medicinal marijuana for her (Now THAT was a weird phone call). Now, keep in mind, my grandmother was, for all intents and purposes, BED RIDDEN for 15 years. She never left the house because she was in too much pain. After administering medical marijuana to her.....she felt no pain (And wanted a pizza!!!). A year later, she now drives herself to bingo, the mall, the market, and is looking forward to flying to Las Vegas next month, a place she hasnt been to in over 30 years!!!!!!!!!!
Once upon a time, I would have given a hearty Beavis and Butthead guffaw at giving marijauna to old people. But having seen the medicinal effects on my granbdmother, the prolonging effects on my grandfather, and the pain relieving effects on myself, medical marijuana is just that; medicinal. It really makes my blood boil, because it trivilizes the amazing 6 months my grandfather was given, when government entities claim there is no medicinal benefits to marijauna. Neither of my grandparents were drug users of illegal or illicit drugs. Neither of my grandparents advocated for the total legalization of all drugs, or even marijuana for that matter. Neither of my grandparents were "hippies" or recreational smokers of marijuana. They were legitimately ill people who recieved beneficial healing from a plant. Remember that the next time you hear the government claim only marijuana activists use medical marijauna, and that there is no medicinal benefits to marijauna (even though they are creating SYNTHETIC THC, something they think is medicinal....go figure).

Re: Medical Marijuana Patient in Cali

High all,
I'm a medical marijuana patient in Cali (not LA or San Francisco areas). I had used weed since I was about 17(damn near 30 years now)wow I'm old lol. When I got with my husband I became a daily smoker. Had a kid (son who's 23). to backtrack a little when I was 13 I was riding a horse bareback and did a flip off of the back of the horse, landing on my elbow which in turn broke my shoulder and started (I think) my journey thru the chronic pain pit of hell. At about 28 started having back pain, go to chiropractor and have x-rays and at 28 years old I'm told I have the spine of a 65 y.o. At this point I'm still working.
Fast forward to age 31 or 32. I get hurt at work (tennis elbow) have the surgery and am told by the Dr. that I shouldn't go back to doing the type of job I had (cashier @
a building center). A year after the surgery I'm diagnosed with fibromyalgia and get depressed bad. About three years after that I become addicted to that nasty chemical
stuff and after about 7 or 8 months I go to rehab (get temporarily brainwashed that pot is a gateway drug). About 3 years after that the pain from the depression got to be to much and I went to a pain specialist and did most all of narcotic pain meds. Got even more depressed and started getting nostalgic about the weed. I realized that I felt better when I smoked what I was coming think of as medicine, and so began the quest for medical marijuana. The medical marijuana got rid of the depression and did more for the pain than the pain pills ever did. I've been a legal patients for 1.5 years and I go to the same doctor P.M. does.
I forgot to add that I have degenerative disc disease in my lumbar and cervical spine. Low back and neck.
Sorry about the book.
