I was diagnosed with diabetes about a year and a half ago. It sure did change my life, mostly for the good (the diagnosis not the condition). Just wondered how many of us are lurkin' around here. Perhaps we could share some experience and tips, learn.

Same here user.....I had a stroke in March/05. While in the hospital they discovered I had diabetes as well. The stroke slowed me down a bit & sorta fucked up my typing skills, speed, dexterity. I've regained all my strength but some fine motor skills still suck.
Anyway.....the diabetes had been a fear of mine as my grandfather had it, I'd heard it often skips a generation but who knows the truth there. I try to avoid sugar as much as possible by looking at label contents. A can of soda has about 45 grams of sugar which would be most of what I consume in sugar in 4-5 days. I try to eat well but living alone it's rather hard to shop and cook effectively for just one person, so Ive been eating alot of 'Healthy Choice' meals. While they're not entirely low in sugar (they often have a dessert) they're VERY healthy otherwise. Moderate calories, veggies, and a small starch portion. It's important to only eat whole grain breads too (and I hate whole grain breads) even selecting local bakery whole grain hot dog buns. How bout you user??? |

My doctor says I'm the best controled diabetic she's ever seen. I really don't do that much. I stay away from sugar, though I do cheat on occasion but very rarely. I drink a protein smoothy every morning for breakfast that helps with my bg levels (i'll post a separate thread about that soon). My wife was recently diagnosed also, but no meds, she is controling it with diet. I inject 42 units of lantus every evening and my bg level averages between 90-130. I love whole grain breads, the crunchier the better. Sorry to hear about the stroke.
So come on, theres gotta be more of us than just two on this forum. Lets get together and support eachother. Lurking sucks, join in. |

Due to my chronic pancreatitis, I'm a border-line diabetic. My grandpa was also diabetic (skipping the whole generation thing) and I remember him taking insulin everyday. Last blood check I had a couple months ago my bg was 113, so still lower than the 125 considered diabetic.
What's really scary is more and more younger people like af420balla are being diagnosed as diabetic, to the point where in the next 5-10 years it may be considered an epidemic.

I've been a diabetic for 5 years now and also take Lantus injections every p.m.I also try to watch what I eat cause that is a BIG factor to keep your sugar level as low as possible, but It's been kind of hard for me at times cause I have multiple medical problems. Anyways,Smoking pot seems to help me more than all the drugs I've been perscribed. So I'll just keep toking it up:smokin3:
