Is Smoke Bad?

I know well enough that marijuana doesn't have the cancer causing carcinogens, (or as high of a percentage of) as cigarettes, but then it is still recommended that bud should be vaped. What is the supposed danger in smoke, just some sort of irratation of the lungs? Marijuana is a bronchial dialator.
