Re: Chronic Pain

I also suffer from severe chronic pain from being a pedestrian and was hit by a truck running a red light at 35 mph and died for 3 1/2 minutes. 7 years later I was at a stop light again and was rear ended by a lady driving her suv 45 mph and talking on her cell phone. I was a stoner back in my younger days, I quit smoking for several years and was on a regiment of Dilaudid, Norco and Xanax. My quality of life was poor. Days where I wish I had died the pain wears so heavily on me sometimes. My doctor I'm so fortunate is sympathetic and had no problems whatsoever helping me get my medical marijuana liscence. I get strain lock so easily though, a day and a half of puffing on a strain and it no longer works for me. Which is why my Dr lets me grow more plants, as I gave up Xanax and Dilaudid for marijuana. My quality of life has improved greatly. I can't go completely off the pain meds, I tried, and no amount of extremely potent herb can bring my pain to a managable level , but it has let me greatly reduce my opiate use and I'm totally off the benzo's after taking them for 15 years.
One thing I've noticed, that the stuff I can get non-caregiver wise on the street level is better quality and less expensive than at the different dispensaries. I don't think that should be the case. It's sad when I know a guy who has like 12 different strains but isn't a caregiver and his stuff is less expensive and more potent. If you don't like the way something is then do something to change it right? Well.. I'm thinking that it's high time things changed.
Definately indicas, but sativas have their place too. Everything these days seems to be sativa heavy or mixed with sativa, hard to find really pure indicas anymore.

Re: Chronic Pain

In the mid 90s i suffered a neck injury delivering furniture for the last 3 years i have been getting false sensers from my nerves that feels like i fell into a campfire .

The nuerosurgeon says my x rays of my neck shows that my spine is constricting my nerve rope and without surgery will not improve (which my doctor refused to do).

I have been an off and on smoker for 35 years so i start to smoke to aleviate the burn with marihuana my episodes of intense pain are now minimal and i can live a decent life again.

Re: Chronic Pain

I suffer from chronic back pain after rupturing a disk in my lower back three years ago.

Surgery relieved the severe acute pain I was having from the disk pinching the sciatic nerve in my left leg, but I have been left with chronic back pain, some days better than others, but always there to some degree.

Most of my back trouble is due to "guarding." I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but I've had spasms in my back so severe that I've had to crawl on my hands and knees.

Because of those spasms, I tend to "guard" my back and keep it tense. I also tend to not use my full range of motion because consciously and subconsciously, the pain from those spasms is always in the back of my mind.

I tried using n*rcotic pain meds, and I can't use them for more than a few days because I quickly become tolerant and need increasing doses. They also have this side effect of constipation, which I can do without, thank you very much.

As I mentioned in another post, marijuana has been a godsend for me medically. It helps to relax my back muscles and I've had more relief from using medical marijuana than from any other therapy.

My muscle tension and resulting back pain responds better to sativas than to indicas. Sativas seem to distract me and make me forget about my back more than indicas do for some reason.

great topic, thanks,

SS

Re: Chronic Pain

Several injuries have resulted in chronic pain for me. I've taken lots of prescription pain pills but the medicine that works best is medical cannabis. If I'm out of pot, within a couple of days my ability to sleep gets cut shorter each night. No prescription does what medical marijuana can do. We should just make it legal in every state. We can do that, can't we? All in favor say HIGH.

Re: Chronic Pain

Plumpy420 : there is hope, went thru SSDI approval at 43. need to get your lawyer on it harder. mine was preapproved from some other stuff not medical, but there is more push on serious medical issues. the gov has their people & you yours to see & evals compared. then on to the desk of 3 judges who read it. the less evidence of injury etc, the longer the delay, plus gov's policy on string them out long as possible to see who really goes back to work or jail (10% pop of usa is in). unless you have a really lousy lawyer. mine did nothing but SSDI, but i had been offered in '84 & turned it down after college grant, hip replacement in '97 set me up for it again & shit storm that went down in '01 made it mandatory. there are other church or city groups get on the band wagon to help open ears. post an editorial in the newspapers, that will get responses (some not good). park out at the judges office with a cup & sign to set a sit w/ him. letters to congressman do little but if enough people flood the office, it'll get dealt with.
good luck with it & posted here, i'll play e tag.

Re: Chronic Pain

I have sciatica and have went through several back surgiers and now have nerve damage in my right leg(due to one of the surgeries the friggin doctor cut my nerve and now I have pins and needles in my foot and my leg is numb from my ass to my ankle) and I live in constant pain... My meds are all that keeps me sane because its all that helps me deal with my pain.... All that shit the hospital gave me didn't do anything but make me puke my guts out as well as still be in pain...... I hope and pray that our government passes a law to allow medical marijuana for my home state very soon.... They really need to see all of the advantages of medical marijuana and realize it does have a medical purpose... I have tried taking every legal prescibed meds the doctors gave me and nothing has helped my pain except for marijuana.... I know for a fact if any one in our Government dealt with the pain I have on a daily basis they would damn sure pass a law for themselves.... If I had the money to up and move to a state that allows medical marijuana I would in a heart beat.... I've been writing my congressman atleast 4 times a month but I never hear anything back from him.... I often wonder how many of our elected officials actually smoke marijuana and look down upon others who do the same.... I'm just hoping one day they will open there eyes and legalize the one thing that gets me through the day.....

The next morning I called my work and told them I wouldn't be in that day. Called an eye doctor and was able to see him that morning. At first he didn't know what it was. Happened to have an eye specialist in his office that morning. This doctor said he had never seen it in a person of my age.

After 10 doctors ,3 specialist for a total of 13 doctors. It took the Mayo clinic in Jacksonville,Fla to say what it is. This was only last year. I have been dealing with chronic pain for over three years and still no help. I do take eye drops, but only when I can afford a bottle that is about the size of a pen top. The drops cost $210.00 a bottle with no insurance.

I am medically retired at 39 and still have no insurance. SSI disablity insurance only starts two years after you put in for it. So there is no help. I can't even get help from my local DSS office for insurance.

Fact of the matter is,even though you think there is help out there ...it is a lie. I go blinder everyday. You have no idea the thoughts that go through ones mind. Knowing that soon your lights will go out forever. If it wasn't for my loving wife of 13 years. I wouldn't be here today if not for her and smoking weed for the pain.

I smoke everyday, sometimes six or more a day. Are home is dark because the light hurts my eyes. I can't go out much anymore. Only at night after smoking the hell out of the bong can my eyes rest. There is hope....Family has gotten me this far.

My wife of 6 years couldnt handle my R.S.D. and all the drugs that i have had to take in the last 3 years. 75 % didnt do any thing but make me mean. All most all the meds i take mess with my brain chemistry. Meth**one and all the antidepressants that I dont need. I'm in Pain 24/7 Not crazy.

Any way Be thank full for Family thats my point.

Re: Chronic Pain

pain sucks. My first big MS attack left me with constant burning and sometimes stabbing pain on the bottom of my foot. I've been hoping it'd get better with time, but it looks like its here to stay.

I tried the antidepressants but they made me feel like a zombie, and I couldn't stay awake for more than a few hours at a time. Now I'm taking antiepileptic pills 4 times a day which has helped a lot. But still, by the time the evening rolls around, the pain breaks through. A little vaped mj turns the burning into just an odd tingle and I can sleep. I wish I could let all the prohibitionists have just one day of this.

Re: Chronic Pain

Yes , I suffer from arthritis of the neck which radiates pain down my right side. I also have peripheral neuropathy. The pain is like shingles if you have ever had shingles (which unfortunately, I have had in the past). That is the closest pain like it.

I had to fight long and hard to get the Doc to sign. I have also had to give up a lot. I have 22 years clean in N. A. and it is unsafe for them to be near me if I have smoked my medicine recently. The smell could trigger an addict to go back out using and dieing. I go to A.A. meetings, but it is not the same.

Driving past a road-killed skunk could also trigger a relapse by that logic. To blame you for a relapse is ridiculous.

Screw that. If I were you, I'd keep going to your N.A. meetings, and if anyone objects, tell them to take responsibility for their recovery and not to blame "triggers", because that's just BS. Do what you can to reduce the smell, but don't let anyone chase you out of your N.A. chair, you earned it.

What about people in A.A., should they avoid going grocery shopping, and about a million other places and activities, because they might run into some booze?

Re: Chronic Pain

i have been diagnosed with scolious since i was about 7 years old. my back hurts so bad its hard to sleep, walk, sit, or basically anything. i can only sleep for maybe 4 hours before i have to get up. i roll around the whole time i sleep to try and get comfortable.

now after working for10 years im only 23 btw. my knees are shot, i have arthritis in my hands from working at a visteon plant. my shoulders hurt constantly alongwith grinding/clicking sound. i also have debilitating migraines, that get so intense it blurs my vision, and feels like some just wacked me with a hammer in my head.

ive been working for vvisteon for 3 years, as a temp. no insurance, nothing. and prior to that i was a head groundskeeper for a reality company for about 2 years, who also didnt offer insurance. so ive been forced to deal with all my pains without a dr prescribing me with pills. ive always just smoked some ganja and went about my business. it never really gets rid of all my pain, but enough to live my life.

I understand what you are saying and I agree. We can not become monks or hermits and cut ourselves off from the world. On the other hand I am not going to purposely expose my addict friends to even the smell of it. I will continue to go to a friends birthday, but my solution suits me fine. I worked hard for several years to get the meetings sustainable in my area. No one can take my founding member status away. I am proud of the groups I have helped start over the years. When I go to A.A. meetings , if someone makes a comment if they can smell it on me, I can freely tell them to take a hike to their sponsor and have them explain the differences between my medicine and boose.
