I learned this after submitting my application; The key to getting approved without delay is to fill out the form thoroughly and completely and submit your medical records even though they say you don't need to. I called my doctors and requested all records so that there wouldn't be any delay in getting approved. Most importantly, you will need your medical records in order to answer many questions intelligently, you will need to know what certain medical terms are concerning your condition and you will need to know how to spell them correctly. READ the instructions on the application carefully and thoroughly and don't skip a single step, follow them to the "T" You MUST NOT leave any lines blank and this is an absolute!!! Fill it out completely even if the questions seem repetitious, if the questions are asked more than once, (which they are but worded differently) don't hesitate to write the same answer but word them slightly different. I even told them that it hurt my back to wipe myself, no kidding! As odd as it sounds, these are the kind of answers they are looking for. NO Crossouts! If you make a mistake, call them and ask for another application form, they'd be more than happy to send you another. I used the first form they sent me as a draft, then I took my time and copied the final draft to the new application form. Take your time. The examiner's will rubber stamp your application "DENIED" if one line is blank or your writing is not legible or any part of the application is incomplete or questionable. I printed every word neatly so it appeared as if it was typed. I asked for a second copy to rewrite my application because I wasn't quite satisfied with my penmanship or a particular answer and it paid off. Don't expect to fill out the application in one day, it took me a whole week to complete mine. Give each question careful thought before answering. I was approved within 2 months and my social worker called me and said that my application was one of the best they had ever seen. He said that most people are denied because of incomplete app's, incomplete information or poor penmanship. The examiner's will deny any application if there is the slightest hint of a questionable answer or information you submit, I can't stress this enough. If you are denied, it's very difficult to get approved, I've heard of so many people with qualifying illinesses that were denied due to any one of the reasons I mentioned. I'm glad to share this info with you and wish you good luck for anybody applying.

I hope you have a real good lawyer. In my case, I ended up having to fire my lawyers[Binder and Binder]. I was filing for SSDI, and believe me, I went through hell for five years. Make sure you do your homework. Get yourself the pamphlets from social security that will tell you about ssi and ssdi. Social security will do their best to frustrate you, hoping you will give up and go away. Don't let them. Even though I did qualify for disability, I didn't for ssi. The reason was because, my wife made too much a year from her pension ( $12,350 ). I think that is sad, but at that point, I was argued out. One of the good things about ssi is, you are allowed to work. Offhand, I'm not sure how much your allowed to make.
If you are applying for ssdi, make sure your doctors say, you can not work because of your disability. I really hope you do not have to go through what I did,and I wish you all the luck in the world.

Greetings Everyone
I was denied SS as I only paid in when I worked extra jobs (couple a wk) BUT I have 100% dissabillity retirement [from Ohio Police & Fire], I have multiple sclerosis. I take $2300.00 a month in scripts but the ONLY THING that gets rid of the pain and burning sensations is pot. A Single joint and ALL the pain and burning is GONE. It does not again return for 4-6hrs. How can I get some help??? Thank You With Respect Jeff (fuzzythirty) |

Honestly? Move to Michigan. Or California. Or Canada. I'm not entirely certain that I'll live long enough to see MMJ legalized in Ohio.

my experiences are far different. the first time i did everything just right. denied. when i messed up the paperwork, refused to talk to them or answer questions and had my wife tell them it made me hostile and angry to talk to them. i was approved. go figure.

WEll I went to see "THEIR" doctor, he must have been 75 yrs old! WHOLLY SHEEP SHIT! He saw my tattoos a, heard my asian ringtone, and drew a conclusion based on that, that sonofabitch, didnt give me a chance, he shook his head when i got undressed, he totally has a conclusion already, even with an MRI showing radiculapathy, the herniation sitting on my sciatic nerve, and a neck herniation,he blatantly told me there is nothing wrong with me, HAHAHA, so 6 years of reserach and doc visits and films and 100 pages of my condtion, this guy still declined me. JJEEEESSUS> this pisses me off. Not only that but rotator cuff injuries on both shoulders. So, i was judged by seemingly being healthy.. he took years of info and in 1 hr, decided i was not disabled. guess it's time to get an attorney.... but you cannot work once approved for ssd.

PS. If you do get it, do not fall into the trap of trying to work part time. Have another friend that they are in the process of booting out because she tried to work part time. Now they say she's healthy enough for regular work. Don't do it. Find some part time work under the table if you can. Sell on ebay, anything but a regular job. |

I've been trying for over 3 years, I've been denied 3 times. It's been over six months now and am waiting to hear how this appeal goes, this last time I had to go before a "Judge" and yes he tried to trip me up and took stuff I said the wrong way. like "do you drive?' Yes I drive. He cut me off and went to the next question. I didnt get the chance until the appeal to say "Only in emergencys because of my hypervigilence I cant stay focused on the road and swerve and go through red lights. Besides that I cant even leave my house to GET INTO my car" They even had one of their people sit there and listen and then say no I do not think she is able to do gainful work. I was still denied. Lawyer said this is the last time I can appeal, next I will have to start all over again with a whole new claim. I've got two heart problems, and PTSD. My Doc's take my side and I've seen that they dont think I can work. But the SSA Doc says I can. It's funny how they want to hear from your Doc's but they dont take their word for it. What jerks. I understand there are those who just want the scam the system and freeload but it makes it so damn hard for those who really do need it.
Yes they try to screw with you, dont give up, keep appealing, and definately need a lawyer. I'm going to keep at it until they are sick of me. *sigh* Good luck everyone. |

And what really sucks is this is your money. Its money you have paid in over your lifetime of working. I'm not asking for any freebies I just want my money back. I'm still waiting for my last appeal before the judge. Could be another year.

Well I'm happy for those that got it. I have been out of work since 2007. Was turned down, even with a MOUNTAIN of paperwork. Said I could be trained for a part time job within 90 days or some crap like that. I finally got a lawyer and that was early 2008. I'm STILL waiting for a hearing and my att. says it could be as late as April 2010. I suffer from severe Rhumatoid Arthritis, Fibronyagia, 5 blown discs in my neck, 5 blown discs in my lower back, my left knee needs replaced ( eaten up by the Arthritis ), and suffer from Chronic Pain. We get no help from food stamps, welfare, etc. ( damn pride thing ) Anyway I'm so screwed up they don't even need me to see their doctor but NO DISABILITY hearing in almost 2 years now. I live in Colo. so I wish you the best in your state. Oh 1 more thing. I'm being hassled about using MMJ from the legal system, in my county, stemming from my suicide attempt in early 2008. Charged for hitting a cop, I DIDN'T, pled guilty for harassment and probation is harassing me (which they have no legal right ) over MMJ. Again best wishes, get a lawyer, and stand firm.

One of the things I've found that seems to carry the most weight is the phsycological exam. Had a friend in about the same physical shape as I am and he got his SSDI in 3 weeks. When he went before the phsychiatrist he was just completely rude and obnoxious and said he felt like killing anybody he ran into. It worked for him. |

To damn funny. I did get sent to one of them too. I about kicked his ass when he made a comment to me. To say the least I told him he had his head so far up ssi's ass they had to open their zipper for him to breath. And guess what it's obvious I was right. He wrote that I was moderately depressed. What clowns. It makes me want to break their arms, legs, wrists, you get the jist and, ask tell them to get their ass to work. You can at least work part time! LMAO AMEN WEED420
