Ptsd?

Anybody out there using mmj for helping cope with PTSD?

There are a lot of vets suffering unnecessarily and I noticed that this topic has not been started in this Forum area. I wanted to bring it up because I am a vet suffering and have only found one medicine that allows me to function when my PTSD starts to get out of control...

Unfortunately for me, PTSD is not something a normal doctor will put in my medical files even though I have many of the major symptoms. The only thing the normal doctor will do is try to get me to have psych sessions and prescribe to me what I think are medicinally lobotomizing drugs that I cannot stand to even think about trying.

Needless to say, I found a medicine that works for me. No more nightmares, no more waking up in fits of rage, no more lack of energy during the day because I get a good night's rest, and the moodiness is under control. All of that from a couple tokes before bed time. I just wish I could find a Sac area Doctor that is compassionate enough to help me get my medicine legally without needing info I cannot get from Kaiser.

Sorry for rambling. Are there any others out there suffering from PTSD and wish to share how mmj has helped you?

Re: Ptsd?

Wow thecyberartis, thanks for what you did before you retired. What a rewarding career. I think I might have to cruise down to get my card. I just wonder if the dispensaries up here will recognize it. Something more for me to look into.

Happy Friday

Re: Ptsd?

It was the most rewarding career I could have ever dreamed for. Although I miss it every day, I did it long enough to know I made a big difference in a lot of lives. I feel blessed I did it for such a long time and didnt burn out, get hurt or worse. I do realize I missed too much of my daughters life and now I can spend some time with her everyday. For years, I sometimes was gone for days... thanks for the nice remarks.

Tried to PM you but couldn't not enough posts yet. Anyways Im pretty sure since it is a state law, and the rec I recvd was one that appears good statewide. A friend brought her stuff up from San Diego and had no problem using it in LA county.

It would not hurt to pick up the phone and just ask the dispensary people. Actually you could go in and ask them. Hey, your a patient looking for information. Just tell them that you are "driving down to LA to see a specialist and expect getting your card out of the same appointment, saving me some $. Just checking to make sure its good anywhere, like your fine establishment." I'm sure they are used to med card questions.

I'll try and post some more and send you a pm as well. If you come down, I'll personally take ya to the doctor I went to - and would send any PTSD or similar patient to him as well.

Re: Ptsd?

I live in the great state of Maine "the way life should be" .Well life is good here but I suffer from PTSD as well as a few other disabling things I receive a check for each month. I have found that a few tokes b4 bed helps me rest much better than any of the drugs the VA tries to pump into me. I also suffer from severe migraines and find that a few tokes makes them more tolerable and doesn't incompasatate me the way that prescription drugs does. My problem has been finding a doctor here willing to recommend the usage of medical cannibus. So yes this vet does smoke for help with PTSD I just need a doctor willing to document the use for me so that the skunks(what I call the police) will not bother me.

personally, i suffer from chronic major depression, social and generalized anxiety disorder (with panic), obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and a few others that aren't as everyday life-stressing. i have been in and out of psychiatrists' offices since i was 8 years old. i have been institutionalized at least 10 times since 1994, and i have been medicated (on and off) since then. i have been on many MANY anti-depressants, anti-psychotics, and barbituates. every time i get prescribed something, it just seems to make me feel worse, and i give up on it.

the only thing that keeps me "normal" is cannabis. even then, not having a med-card, its hard to find what i need, and then i have added paranoia of getting caught.

i like to feel purified, not zombified.

Re: Ptsd?

My heart goes out to everyone from other states, legal or not. The process was pretty simple here and you dont get put into a state database - that part is voluntary. I suppose if a doctor gets his/her license in a bind they could yank all the patient files but if you are truly suffering and its documented, its all good. All my best to my fellow sufferers!

Re: Ptsd?

I smoke mmj for PTSD. I also take anti-depressants from VA. I have bad paranoia and anxiety when I go into busy places. Sometimes the local grocery store is too much to handle. I also have a hard time sleeping, with nightmares and restlessness. I specifically asked my Physiatrist to prescribe me something that won't make me a zombie. I tell him about my mmj use and talk to him about how it helps me and how I use it instead of other drugs with way worse side effects.

As long as I have the right type of smoke, just a few tokes from the pipe and I'm good to go anywhere for a hour or so depending on how strong what I'm smoking is. If I'm going to be out longer I sometimes smoke more, but I find that overindulgence in the day makes it hard to remember what I left the house for.

If I have the money or when my garden is harvested, I'm able to have more than one type of smoke. This is great for me because sleeping is really hard for me to do on most nights. If I have a nice powerful indica, I can usually take a few hits and fall asleep quite fast. On these nights, I tend to sleep virtually dreamless and it's great.

The biggest problem I have here is that even though I live in a legal state, and have a recommendation, there's no dispensary in my area so I'm stuck smoking what ever is available with no variety.

Hope this helps.
