Rockwool slabs: Bad Room Syndrome or Nutrient lock out?

Hi everyone,

My first grow on rockwoolslabs look like a disaster.

At the moment that the roots go into the slabs the problems begin. Before i pre-soaked my slabs Ec1,2 Ph5,2.

After my 1st watering i measure the drain Ec1,4 Ph5,9. At this time the plants are in the 3rd week 18/24. The grow is slow and the colors are bad. It started in the young leafs at the top.

Here some pic's, starting from week 1

1st week pic 1:

1st week pic 2, nearby a mom on soil:

1st week pic 3:

2nd week pic 1

2nd week pic 2

3rd week pic 1

3rd week pic 2

3rd week pic 3

In the meantime i not water my plants. They not take up some water. The slabs are very wet the last days.

Room temp. daytime 25
Room temp at night 21
Hum. about 55%

If anyone recognize these problem pls reply. I don't really know what to do next.

All the best,
Cannabol

Re: Rockwool slabs: Bad Room Syndrome or Nutrient lock out??

I normally pre soak rockwool in PH 5.5 b4 use as recommended by the manufacturer. That may have been the start of the prob if u suspect lock out. I don't know much about bad room syndrome but I'm sure some1 who does will take a look at this thread shortly. If u suspect nute lockout or PH problems, flush ASAP. What color are the roots? Are the root systems thriving or struggling?

Re: Rockwool slabs: Bad Room Syndrome or Nutrient lock out??

BWC BayArea, thanks for reply.

The roots didn't grow fast the first 2 weeks. Now i see them at the outside of the rockwool.
In the meantime the plants are nearly die. I did flush the system already 1 week ago and make new water. Maybe i made a mistake with mixing but it didn't help at all.

I never see this before and I think there is some bad gas in this room.

Could be an air in air out deal, do you have plenty of fresh air coming in to your room?

What kind of lighting do you have? The plants look like they are starving for nutes and or light.
How are you watering? Do you have a timer? How many times a day are you watering?
How high is the light above the plants.
get back to us ASAP

Re: Rockwool slabs: Bad Room Syndrome or Nutrient lock out?

Hello PitViper,

I have about 800W/meter and the lamps are about 80 cm high now. I'm watering with a dripsystem. The last time i give water is 3 days ago... just because the slabs are full of water. The plants almost not take up water. I also measure my slabs (Ec1,9 Ph5,9)

In the meantime i put a mom in the room in soil. This mom i feed with nute's from another room. This plant in soil is starting yellowing too. Her sisters in the other room have a healty grow. I realy start to believe i have some bad gas in this room...

Cannabol. this>Plant Abuse Chart may help too. Take a look. What's going on with ur leaves I've seen a few times b4. This link should point u in the right direction. I don't want to comment/advise u in hydro when I'm a soil man. Check it out, keep asking questions, and keep posting.

Re: Rockwool slabs: Bad Room Syndrome or Nutrient lock out?

BWC, in the meantime i clean whole the room and put the plants outside. The problem was getting more worse.

The problem chart i see and my problem look like Iron Deficiency, Sulphur (S) deficiency, Potassium deficiency or a mix of these so... something's really wrong!

I think it's Formaldehyde or Ethylene or something. Just because i put a healthy mom in soil in the room and this baby getting the same symptoms.

Next week i pack whole room in b/w plastic and start all over again. Lest's see what happen.

for reply BWC BayArea, CBP420 and PitViper.

Cheers,
Cannabol

This might sound really stupid, but once the slabs were soaked/saturated, you did cut drain slits in them didn't you?

What is the pH, EC from the runoff water?

Are you using a tent of some sort?
