I went to Jamaica last year, it is such a beautiful country. It's natural climate supports the perfect weed growing conditions and yet they cannot use this natural resource. Many North Americans who have visited Jamaica have only seen the tourist side, Montego Bay, Ocho Rio, Negrill etc. You don't have to venture too far away from your resort to witness the poverty in the towns. I was volunteering in a small town situated, literally, in Kingston's garbage dump. The town was home to momre than 5 000 people. As part of the program I learned why Jamaica's economy suffers so badly, part of the reason is that imported farm products sell for much much cheaper than locally grown crops, therefor America is taking the income away from the farmers. I also learned the the US gives an allowance to Jamaica each year, this money is vital to their already poverty stricken government. If legalizing Marijuana would improve America's economy, it would perhaps mend Jamaica's. However, despite the governments possible desire to legalize it, they cannot for the US will cease to give the Jamaican government the money they need. Not only are they destroying the local farming business, they are ruining a chance to pull Jamaica out of poverty.

That is not just Jamaica, its the same here, all the good locally grown fruits and veggies at farmers markets are way more then a chain store.

All the U.S. has to do is to abolish the domestic sugar subsidy, which started during ww2 and has led to the destruction of our Everglades and water supply. The Carribean and the Americas will be more than happy to supply us with all the suger we want at the worlds market price, which is about 1/3 the price we pay for it. And the Fanjoul family, who owns most of U.S.Sugar arn't even U.S. citizens and escape taxes by living in Spain.
This has been comming up for over 50 years, and Congress just keeps with more of the same, and puts the money in their pockets. |

Weird, I've always experienced the opposite when buying locally grown...
