Hi all, first time grower/poster here at 420Mag. I've learned a lot from reading here and thought I'd start a journal of my own. Thanks to all of you who've shared your experiences and helped those of us who are new to this growing game. I'm in week 5 of my grow and will catch this journal up ASAP. Any and all comments and questions are very much appreciated. Cheers.

So, here goes...

Strain - Vision Northern Lights Autoflowering Feminized (Herbies Seeds)
Lights - (2) 300w Mars Hydro LEDs pulling about 130w each
Tent - 34" x 34" x 64"
Containers - Started each in solo cups and transplanted to 5 gallon fabric pots
Medium - 100% coco coir
# of Plants - 2
Nutrients - FloraNova Grow/Bloom, CalMag Plus, and city/tap water (daily)
Training Techniques Used - LST on NL#1 and leaf tucking on NL#3

Initially I started 2 seeds in paper towel but the 2nd (NL#2) looked rotten and part of the root came off so I started a 3rd seed (NL#3 - 6 days behind NL#1). NL#2 lived for several weeks but never grew roots or a stem. Here are some photos...

NL#2 is now cheering from the sideline and preparing to nourish this new habanero plant (that journal resides elsewhere) :)

No kidding Grower23. NL#3 took off like a bat outta hell and germinated within 24 hours in paper towel (no pre-soak). The tap root was over an inch long, super fuzzy, and grew in between the paper towel plies. I accidentally broke it when I pulled it out. Didn't seem to matter though, seems to have been going strong ever since, anyway.

Welcome to :420: infinitejuan! This is a great place to get all of the help you need if you need it. Those girls are looking fantastic. For being in week 5 and not having and buds yet is a little surprising, so prepare for those to be some big girls! Very green and healthy. :thumb:

Thanks for the welcome, nismo12. :icon_cool I am very happy with how these girls are coming along, but yeah, they seem to be a little behind what I've seen in some other journals. I don't know if that is because I was initially hesitant to increase nutes and decrease light distance, or maybe it has to do with transplanting them from solo cups to their current containers. In the future I'll probably go with the advice to put autos in their final container, from the beginning, so that the transplanting doesn't hinder growth rate.

Hop over to our perpetual grow and you can see a good mixture of strains. But we start our autos in solo cups and about a week after they sprout they get transplanted. They never know the difference. To each their own. Keep it up, you are doing just fine. :thumb:

Vision Seeds Northern Lights Autos are great. I have grown out quite a few of them with great results. Very stable, always flower, all flower right around the same time, and they always produce good. I have a few of them growing now as a matter of fact. From my experience they all seem to get a little over 3 feet tall and they like a lot of water. They are always the first to dry out in my garden. They tend to have a lemony smell with some expressing the attribute more then others. Your are looking really nice already!

Thanks nismo12. How do I find your perpetual grow?

Cool greffon, I'll be checking in on yours as well. :thumb:

Thanks for that info, Mpfstc. Sounds like I'm in for a treat; it's been a pleasure so far, that's for sure. I've had a difficult time finding much info at all on these Vision NL Autos. I mostly choose them for the medicinal qualities and because I did read in several places that NL is a great strain for beginners to start with because they are quite forgiving. Do you happen to have any links to your grows of them or more related info to this strain in particular? Thanks again.

Thanks much! :thumb:

Alright, I've managed to consolidate some of the info from this grow and am posting some pics up to this point. I applied LST to NL#1 which means I bent her top over with garden wire and tucked fan leaves. NL#3 I am only applying leaf tucking.

I just harvested my Vision NL auto today. Just posted pics of the harvest although I had to shut it down about a week too early. Yours are looking great. They'll really start to drink water towards the end of the grow.

Heya GrowSwami, I just had a look at your journal and realized I actually had been lurking on your journal for a bit now. Nice job on your grow! That looks like quite a harvest. :thumb:

How tall did your NL get? Now I'm concerned that I'm not going to have enough height in my 64" tall tent... and width with 2 plants of this size. I wonder if I should LST my other one as well. Input anyone? I didn't anticipate them having the potential to get so big. :/

You should have no problem with height. At peak height, the only issue I had was it started to approach the bottom of my light which got pretty hot. I just angled a fan torward the top and it was fine. I didnt do any lst or scrog for my first grow though. My goal was to keep it as simple as possible. You will also be fine with width for two plants but it will be tight torward day 45 and up. Should not be a problem though.

Things seem to be going quite well. I do have a couple questions/issues though...

1. I have some spots on a few of the leaves. If anyone can give me insight as to what they may be from. Could it be from the light burning them due to droplets of water/nutes being left on them after feeding? They seem to only be on lower growth. Some images...

2. Am I looking at preflowers here? I started feeding them as if in transition 1/2 FloraNova Grow, 1/2 FloraNova Bloom, along with the usual CalMag+. I seem to be getting a very minor bit of tip burn so I've backed off a bit on ppm level. These two don't seem to need much when compared to feed charts; I'm on the lower end.

More pics from today. NL#1 at Day 34 (left) and NL#3 at Day 28 (right)

Any questions or comments are always appreciated. Thanks all.

The girls look happy and healthy bud. Those little spots look like nute burn to me probably from splashing it on to the leaves when watering. Nothing major there. It happens.

And yes it looks like they will be beginning flower here within the next week or so. So keep on the bloom nutes. You are on the right track, keep it up. :thumb:

can running nutrient water over the plant cause nute burn? i at times run my water through some of one of my plants simply because it is a pain to get under all the foliage that is so thick at the base of the plant.

Yes it can. Normally nute burn shows up on the very tip of the leaves. Splashing nutrients on the leaves will cause spotting like that.
