Hello everyone! This is my first journal and first grow. This has been a learning experience for me, and throughout the journal you will see that I have made several changes along the way correcting issues I overlooked at the start.
I am growing a single plant, an auto strain from CKS named Revolver (White Widow x NYC Diesel).
I germed, I planted, and it popped up on May 16th.
Im growing in a 5 gallon bucket with holes drilled in the bottom and sides near the bottom. It is 2/3 filled with FoxFarm Ocean Forest (in hindsight I should've just filled it all the way). I hadn't used any nutes until week 4 and I used Espoma Organic Grow! at 2/3 strength. I have fed once a week until this week when I watered with clean ph'd water. I will add bloom nutes (also Espoma) next week.
I started the grow with the same grow medium and 5 gallon bucket. I was trying to avoid transplanting since it's an auto. I've since read that transplanting at least once is better for the root system so on my next grow I will transplant.
At the start of the grow I was just using a single 27 watt cheapo LED flood light type grow light. It was about 8 inches away, which is way too close for an LED. I found that out a little later than I would've liked, so I changed over to CFLs around 2 weeks into the grow. I have been running my lights 20/4, with my lights out in the evening (this is a stealth grow since my house is being remodeled by my father in law and he does not approve). I changed it to 18/6 around week 4 of veg and added several more lights so I had a total of 6 23 Watt 65K cfls.
Everything was going smoothly growing out in my garage until we had a heat wave around week 3. My self-made grow cabinet (32H x 18W x 21D) got up to 120 on the worst day with 7 23W 65K CFL going about 6 inches from the top of the plant. I did have a fan in the cabinet, but all it was doing was moving hot air. I couldn't do anything about it until week 4 when I moved the cabinet into my closet in the house. I have kept it between 70-80 with 45-60% humidity since then. I went down to just 4 23W bulbs and raised them another 6 inches, as well as installing a small fan that blows air just over the bucket and just under the lights along with a fan outside the cabinet pulling cold air in and circulating the air in the closet. Around week 6 I finally was able to install an exhaust fan to pull the hot air out of the box. Temps have been perfect ever since and I was able to get the lights back to about 4 inches away without losing control of my heat.
Around the same time that I moved my grow box into the house I found out I have been over watering. I have been weighing everything to ensure I only water when dry since week 4, and she seems to be recovering well now.
I just switched to 6 27k cfls yesterday and I will be adding bloom nutes next time I need to water.
I will add pictures in the next post.
