A federal grand jury has indicted 21 people on drug-related charges stemming from the discovery of a large marijuana growing operation near St. George.

State and federal police arrested the suspects in a raid on the marijuana farm on July 16. More than 13,000 plants were removed from the site.

The indictment was handed down late Wednesday in Salt Lake City's U.S. District Court.

The charges include conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance by cultivation, manufacture of a controlled substance by cultivation and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

The drug charges carry a maximum penalty of life in prison. The firearms charge is punishable by five years.

U.S. Attorney's office spokeswoman Melodie Rydalch says an arraignment for all 21 defendants is set for Monday.
