A traffic stop for speeding on March 9 resulted in the seizure of approximately 25 pounds of marijuana.

The traffic stop occurred at 9:42 a.m. at milepost 22 on Interstate 80 eastbound, approximately 16 miles east of Evanston, Wyo., according to a report in COUNTY 10.

A Wyoming State Trooper observed a Nissan Altima travelling east at 87 mph in a posted 75 mph zone.

After stopping the Nissan, the trooper became suspicious the occupants in the car were involved in some type of criminal activity, specifically drug trafficking after smelling the overwhelming odor of raw marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle.

After searching the Nissan, troopers located 25 pounds of raw high-grade marijuana.

It was determined the marijuana was being transported to the Madison, Wisconsin area from Oakland, California.

Gerald Nichols, 41, and 24-year-old Stephanie Martin, both of Madison, Wisconsin, were arrested.

Both individuals were taken to the Uinta County Jail and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

The estimated street value of the seized marijuana is $125,000.
