3rd Grow: 1st Journal 2020: Indoor GR & Soil

Here we go.
Grow #1
Early last spring I was given 4 seeds of an unknown strain.
Although I have grown lots of veggies and flowers , never grew cannabis.
I popped those 4 seeds into small plastic containers with my Favorite potting soil and put them in my greenhouse .
2 sprouted and I watered sometimes for about a month.
They grew about 8” & 12” , spindly as heck and I transplanted to one of my veggie beds next to some sunflowers.
All I did to those plants was straight water from the tap .
I harvested both in Oct and ended up with 12 full jars of an excellent sativa.
Go figure. This is easy right ?

During the winter , I sort of set up a grow room and started 8 unknown seeds.
Long story short , I did about everything wrong , for inside grow , that you could do.
I ended up with a male early and then a bunch of hermie plants 3 weeks into flower.
2 jars of poor quality buds.

I ordered feminized seeds from a reputable source in Canada .
Nirvana Aurora Indica. Barney’s Farm Amnesia Lemon . Afghan Kush / White Widow .
The seed distributor sent me a white widow for free. It did not germinate
Set up the grow room ( 4’ x 8’ x 7’ ) w/ BestVA Led light / power 1000w.
I just added 2 ea 4’ strip LED 60 w.
Fans and exhaust .
I started the seeds in paper towels on 4/17
Potted 9 seeds on 4/21. I call this Day #1
My potting soil of choice is EarthMix Proganix Organic Indoor Grow Mix.
I have a well for water that runs about 7.5 PH.
I use PH Down to get to 6.5.
I water only and up pot the Indica and Amnesia on 4/28 Day#7.
On 4/30 Day #9 , I up pot the AK/ WW and dump the WW & one of the AK/ WW .
Those 2 never germinated.
5/5 Day #14 I start FoxFarm 12 week cycle Soil Feeding Schedule.
5/7 I up pot all 7 plants. Same potting soil.
Lighting schedule 16/8
Temps range 68/78 Dark to light
RH ranges 55% to 65%.
I start setting plants outside for full sun 6 hrs a day when weather allows
5/9 & 5/10 I top plants.
5/14 Day# 23. Up pot to 5 gal Vivosun Fabric Pots.
I start LST on all plants.
Following Fox Farm recommendations for nutrients twice weekly.
Straight PH 6.5 well water as needed , in between.
Today is Day #31.
I have continued w/ LST
I have transplanted one Amnesia Lemon to garden For outside grow.

Grow room works 6 plants very well.

The plants are all thriving . No yellowing . No burn.
The girls are happy.

Welcome to 420 Magazine

Your garden looks fantastic! No yellow, no burn, leaves are standing up nicely. In soil you don’t really have to adjust ph and since you are on private well water no need to worry about chlorine or chloramine. Glad to see plants up on pallet, killer move there that will pay dividends. Just wanted to drop in & say hi.

Thanks brother. I didn’t realize ph was not a concern with soil grow.
Is that true ? I had some leaf issues early in my second grow and started adjusting ph and the issue went away. Someone on this site recommended I do that.
I will definitely check out your journal.

Ok dude, I’m not the grow master by any stretch. I’ve read this often but not sure I can articulate it properly. Your soil has its ph regulated by the lime added in by earth mix. if your water ph was a consistent 4 or steady 9 yeah it would be bad but the 7.5 well water gets adjusted by the ph of the soil. You can dump gallons of water & never mess with soil ph or the difference would be minute or negligible.

However your plants look REALLY great so maybe tell me to shut the frig up & twist another one!!!

Nevermind there’s a twisty already on table.

No shit - they do look stellar man!! Follow your gut & the Fox Farms feed chart.

Sometimes I get senior moments because I started hydro & failed big time, switched to soil and FF nutes then migrated to supersoil / living soil / true living organic concepts where it’s a water only soil or water + fish ferts, or earth worm casting tea. I might top dress with some ewc, little epsom or bone meal depending on stage.

Taking that extra step to get the ph right is sort of a labor of love for me.
It can’t hurt right ?
The process is a thing for gardeners.
A perfect Crop of tomato is my goal.
And a perfect bud.

I did experiments with my second grow.
I will continue to get the PH close to 6.3 or 4.

Day #36
I have been using @Emilya watering system now for 3 wet/dry cycles.
Including FoxFarm Week 4 Soil program.
I did not add any nutrients for the first 14 days.
