Arizona - A tractor trailer driver from Texas was arrested on I-40 Monday after Department of Public Safety officers found more than 400 pounds of marijuana stashed in his vehicle. According to information form DPS, an officer from the department's Commercial Vehicles Unit conducting routine inspections of semi trucks stopped the driver for a mud flap violation about two miles east of the Walnut Canyon exit on I-40. The officer became suspicious when he opened the trailer and found it empty. The officer also noticed the interior of the trailer appeared to be shorter than the exterior.

The officer measured the dimensions of the 53-foot trailer and found the inside was only 51 feet long. The officer realized there was a hidden compartment in the trailer. Inside were roughly 430 pounds of marijuana. The truck, which originated in Barstow, Calif., and was heading east, was owned by the Florida-based company U.S. Transportation Services, Inc. The driver, Pedro Pablo Cruz-montesino, was arrested and charged with illegal control/racketeering, possession of marijuana for sale and transporting drugs for sale. He was booked into the Coconino County jail.
