I gave a friend some SLH yesterday and as I was putting buds in the bag, I realized he was getting the award-winning nug.
I haven't decided whether to tell him or not. 
"You smoked some award-winning herb, guy." congrats, graytail. I'm still waiting on my month! I've come close a few times, I can taste it...
It's a crapshoot.
I think it's a matter of growing as well as you can, and a winning plant or nug will just "appear" in your garden. It took me a year and a half to get my first winner, but that was a doozie!

My buds should be so lucky to have that kinda mold... I think what you are seeing is how thick the trichs are stacked on that bud... I sure wish I had all your moldy looking bud Gray...
