If you have 8 plants I'd say arrange them in a 4 X 2 pattern and put the 400 and 600 side by side and you should have very good lighting.
If you have 10 plants, try 5 X 2 for a pattern. You won't need anywhere near a whole 10 by 10 room, put mylar around the plants to keep all the light hitting them.
