6th Grow: Ethos - Banana Daddy & Dutch Passion - Passion Fruit

Due to my wife forgetting I had mothers to water while I was away......their no longer with us so its back to seeds.

This is my first grow with autoflowers I've been strictly photoperiod but I am trying to see if I can pull some big numbers off these ruderalis strains and also am gonna try and fim them young to see if manipulating them early will hurt their yeilds or not. Ive heard multiple arguments so I'd like to finally put that to the test.
On paper these ETHOS autoflowers look beast
BANANNA DADDY (bananna hammock cross with granddaddy purps)
27% thc then all the cb's. And up to 100 to 150 grams per plant yeild......cant wait to put those numbers to the test as well.

Also im very excited to be trying PASSION FRUIT (sweet pink grapefruit crossed with orange bud) from one of my favorite breeders DUTCH PASSION
The Dutch passion are photoperiod and will be in their own 4x4 tent the ETHOS will be in the 8x8 tent. . Ive also got 2 freebee seeds from auto flower PARADISE SEEDS called vertigo i will try and the 2 freebies from DR KRIPPLING haven't and probably won't pop.
But Let's get after it

Now I have very good success rate with popping seeds. Before this method I was at 55% to 75%
With this method I am 95% to 100%
My teacher was about 90 years old. Forget everything you've ever heard about popping seeds. As they usually involve WAY to many steps. Too many steps. Equals more damage to this delicate seed. (I kid you not) Which leads to failure to pop. I never used to belive that. But I wish I did.
First with seeds peat plugs worth best. Rapid r0oters are best for clones IMO.

Step 1. Put seeds in a glass of tap water in a warm area.
I have a heat matt and a humidity dome that I use for my germinating area

Step 2. Wait a day or 2 until the seed splits and shows some of its green tail out one end.
20201219_181450.jpg

Step 3. Take that seed gently with tweezers so as not to damage it and place it gently tail facing down NO MORE than .25 inches or 2 to 4mm into the dirt. Put a bit of dirt on top

5. Wait a few days and walla. Every single seed that popped in the glass of water and was planted immediately at the depth i suggested sprouted.

The only seeds that didn't pop were the dr krippling but I blame that on genetics. Thats what u get for free seeds tho

1 out of the 5 Passion Fruit didn't even pop. Kinda ticked but thats allright. 20 of 20 of the Ethos Bananna Daddy popped. 4 are runs and taking their sweet time. All in all we off to a good start

I always transplant to solo cups the second I se a few roots out the sides of the peat plug.

Girls are doing good..the only nutrients they have been getting is VELOKELP from remo. A very nice kelp suppliment with a NPK of 1-1-1 (I give 10 ml per 5 gallons since the NPK is so low and I feel the benefits of the growth hormones and amino acids in the kelp are important for a tiny seedling)
PH of 6.3ish
You might notice the difference of the solo cup substrate in to the one in the 5 gallon pot.
I always start seeds in peat plugs, transfer to a solo cup with coco to make sure the roots move freely, get lots of oxygen, and don't get overwaterd.. then transfer the seedling to PROMIX HP. I use pro mix hp instead of COCO for the main grow because I dont feel like watering daily or every other day. Pro mix hp I can water every 3 to 4 days which fits my schedule better.
I drilled about 150 holes in each of my five gallons for more air to my roots. Fabric pots always leak out the sides. And smart pots cost an arm and a leg and their harder to remove when its harvest time.
I notice ZERO difference between plants grown in either pot.

Day 16 since sprout
The girls are killing it right now they starting to take off. Still going very light on the feeding. Not trying to stress this girls at all.
I've got a very small window from germination to first pistils on autoflowrrs so I'm going to FIM in the next couple days. I want a few even colas on each plant not just one big one that most autoflowers produce.
I dont have any experience with this strain as an autoflower so to be on the safe side im going to FIM.
Everywhere ont the web says dont top or fim autos but I've personally seen grow journals where it doesn't hurt the yeilds so I feel fully confident in the process.

The girls have taken off. Thick stems. Quick growth. FIMed them today just in case they were planning on growing one main Cola. Let's put this FIMing autos myth to the test
These are all the banana daddy autos

Hey i just got all caught up and gotta say lookin great keep it up my friend. im gonna tag along if you dont mind. :thumb: I love how you done those pots and agree smartpots imo cost way to much. I may end up adopting your technique as im limited on cash and all my biggest pots are already in use. If not this grow, in future definitely.
Also, im glad to see im not only one that slips a sock into my photos occasionally hehe love your strain selection and cant wait to see em bigger! cheers

Some of the girls took to the FIM well and branched out others didn't. Wasn't try to stunt them too much anyways. Little nervous with training autos since its my first time doing it. Will just let them grow as is from here on out and see how this strain grows itself.
The 4 little runts at the back having a hard go of it but they alive so thats better than nothing. Didnt expect much from them anyways.

Glad to have you with me brudduh. I do have some 7 gal fabric but they always shooting water out the sides on me. Noy the end of the world but I dont have time to water over 20 plants slowly.

Looking good Mack! Great setup you have there. Your ladies love it, they look lovely and healthy. I’m in :passitleft:

also RIP to your mother plants.
:high-five:
Eiiii yeah the poor mothers. Its cool tho
I dont get attached to phenotypes really.. I just want to try everything. And this way it frees up another small tent for little experiments. :yummy:

Been a busy few days at work was dog tired and couldn't post.
These were taken yesterday on the 23rd.

(24 days since transplant)

The girls responded well to the FIM overall. Some accepted it others told me to go fuck myself and just kept shooting up.....as one of my favorite bay area rappers once said, "It is what is and wuz what it wuz, truth really is that we dont give a fuck." - B-Legit

This first picture theres 8 pots. The 2 pots on the bottom of the pic are called 'VERTIGO' by paradise seeds. Its crazy how much different they are the all banaana daddys

Started giving a little bit of Astro Flower (bloom booster) and Natures Candy (humic/fulvic acids) on top of the micro and bloom from remo.

The plants are healthy. Definately a few diff phenotypes in there. Some hella tall others short and bushy.

I gotta admit this auto thing is weird but I guess we shall see what their capable of.

59 DAYS:

ughhh these autos are so ugly. No impressed with these genetics. Ethos can suck it.
Got 20 seeds of banana daddy.

-4 were RUNTs and when I mean runts I mean everything else had golf ball sized buds on them before they were even 6" tall.
-6 plants are one pheno thats medium height with HUGE buds
-5 plants are second pheno thats super short with a medium yeild
5 plants are a 3rd pheno with that are extremely tall with TINY little buds on them.

These are not stable genetics. Am not impressed. Back to photopwriod for this guy.
Oh well we tried :high-five:
