An electrical fire in a Hooksett home led to one of the largest drug seizures in state history, according to the police.

Saturday afternoon, neighbors told the Hooksett fire department about a fire outside an Evelyn Street home. When firefighters arrived at 24 Evelyn Street about 4:30 p.m., they saw a man fleeing the residence in a car. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which began at the home's electrical meter. While checking the house for damage, firefighters found a basement full of marijuana plants.

The Hooksett police, the state police and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration then obtained a search warrant. Searching the home Saturday night, they found more than 700 marijuana plants and "all the equipment needed to sustain such a large growing operation of this magnitude," a police statement said.

By last night, no one had been arrested in connection with the drug seizure.
