Afghani #1 - Blue City Diesel - Sugar Plum & Blockhead

4 plant legal recreational grow in Oregon. Strains are Afghani #1, Blue (City) Diesel, Sugar Plum and Blockhead. Sugar Plum grown from seed and topped 3 times to create a manifold or "mainlined" plant structure. Remaining three are clones.

400w MH, 24/0 light schedule.
FF Ocean Forest soil, 5 gallon pots.
2x2 grow tent with exhaust and oscillating fans.
Never above 85F daytime according to canopy temperature probe. Occasionally as low as 68F nighttime.
Nutrients: FloraNova Grow as needed during veg since Ocean Forest is pretty hot. FloraNova Bloom when I hit flower.

Blue Diesel (slightly indica dominant hybrid)

Afghani (The closest Leafly has to Afghani #1. There is some debate about genetics but essentially a pure landrace indica)

Sugar Plum (90% sativa)

Blockhead (indica dominant hybrid)

Color on the Blockhead looks way better after 2 days in decent soil.

Afghani looking happy so far. Also way better color.

All 8 tops for the Sugar Plum. Shouldn't require more training.

I've read both sides of the argument of leaving lower growth vs having the plant focus all energy on the new tops. I left the plant much more intact last grow and yielded 4oz from a 42" sugar plum grown in a closet under the same 400w light and soil. It will be interesting to see how this works out. Please feel free to offer your input if you'd like.

Just returned the 2 male Sugar Plum plants to the breeder. They compensated me with 5 Cripit seeds for the trouble, which was okay with me. Cripit is a cross between Pitbull and Crippled Rhino. Stoney Girl Gardens is likely full of shit on their claimed flowering duration, and there is a lot of negative feedback online. With that said, I love Sugar Plum and am very curious if anyone has grown or sampled the Cripit. Anyone tried it?

I fertilized again last night and added carbs (fruit-n-fusion) to the mix for the first time. Part of it is that they were a little bit wilted during the previous pictures, but they really look like they're growing fast.

The canopy on the Sugar Plum is super even and it will be interesting to see how it matures.

The Blue City Diesel is still an inch or so taller than the SP.. for now.

I'm surprised by the size of the leaves on the Afghani #1.

Trained the Blockhead a little now that it's pretty established.

A bit of a challenge to train clones as well as seed plants but we'll see how it works.

In other news, all of my plants are developing or have developed purple stems. No sign of problems and I believe they have plenty of Phosphorus between the FFOF and grow nutes, but I'm open for ideas.

Here's some of the prequel since I started posting on here late in the game. Original 3 Sugar Plum seeds popped on 5/11/16.

The Sugar Plum and Blue City grew over an inch in 11 hours today and are now basically identical in height. The canopy on the SP continues to crack me up. I was a little worried with the bright color of new growth on the Blockhead but it seems to be sorting itself out nicely.

Input requested. Separated the Afghani into 4 tops and began the training process. I started thinking about how soon I need to flip the switch and am now a little concerned with the rapid growth of the two larger plants. I suppose this is a normal issue when growing indica alongside sativa but I'm trying to figure out how best to manage the height differences as that becomes an issue.

I have a milk crate which will allow one plant to be elevated around 12 inches but not a lot of random household options for anything a little shorter. The two shorter plants are clones so they're ready whenever, but I would hate to deprive them of valuable veg time. Any input would be appreciated!

I untied the Sugar Plum tonight basically out of curiosity and I may end up leaving it this way. The canopy has a slant to it but is otherwise flat as a board.

BCD was lollipopped a little for airflow. BCD seems to be extremely sensitive to dry soil. The plant wilts immediately when the soil gets even close to dry a couple inches down.

Afghani recovered from the LST and is doing its thing.

Blockhead looks to be on the verge of a growth spurt.

I hope you have enjoyed my grow journal so far. To be honest, this is my first journal and second grow ever. I started it here because I was looking for interaction and feedback, but, despite several hundred views, only two people have responded and none of my questions have been addressed. I would appreciate any feedback!

Taken yesterday of all 4 before I hacked up the Sugar Plum. The BCD was again super quick to droop but perked up after I watered her. She's now 14" tall and has required almost no canopy management. The Afghani is doing well and throwing out leaves bigger than any plant I've ever grown.

The Blockhead continues to be a bit of an enigma with its bright new growth. I'm open for input here, but my current plan is to let her soil get extremely dry to confirm nitrogen isn't locked out. Pretty sure the handful of fungus gnats I found in my tent came from her so she probably wasn't the best clone from the get go.

Had to make the call to top the Sugar Plum one more time. It was rapidly taking over the tent and I didn't want to deal with elevating the three shorter plants. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I am trying out the method of heavily trimming all but the remaining tops on this manifolded plant. She will now have 16 tops rather than the original plan for 8. Not sure what to expect but we'll see.
