Anchorage - It's been more than a month since Alaska saw its first marijuana retail shop open, now its Anchorage's turn.

Arctic Herbery has already been selling pipes and starter plants, also known as clones, for about a week but owner Bryant Thorp said he's on track to open its doors Thursday at noon to customers who want to buy retail marijuana.

His store will be the first to open in Anchorage, Alaska's largest city.

Herbal Outfitters in Valdez opened in October and claimed the first in the state.

"To see this actually happen after all this time through all the ups and downs and the hoops I had to jump through, to actually be here has been stimulating," said Thorp.

On Wednesday, the shop was busy getting ready as Thorp expects hundreds if not thousands of customers the next couple of days meaning there will be lines, long ones.

Only eight people are allowed in Arctic Herbery at a time and that's including employees.

Customers will only be able to buy 2.5 grams of prepackaged bud costing $50, per person. Three strains will be on hand from Black Rapids, a cultivation facility located in North Pole.

Pre rolled joints will also be available as well.

Thorp said he believes he has enough product to keep up with the expected demand.

Parking is limited at Arctic Herbery, it's recommended to park at 100th Avenue and C street where a shuttle will be available free of charge.

Arctic Herbery is not the only store to open in Anchorage this week. Alaska Fireweed, located downtown, is expected to open on Saturday.
