Wasilla, Alaska - A vote to ban the marijuana industry from unincorporated parts of the Matanuska and Susitna Valleys is losing by 1,433 votes. Despite the apparent win, supporters of the industry with the campaign "Say No to Prohibition in the Valley" say their work isn't over.

The leader of the campaign opposing the borough wide ban, Proposition B-1, hopes maybe Wasilla will overturn it's ban on the marijuana industry. Tina Smith says the city council there voted to ban marijuana after the majority of residents voted against legalizing marijuana when it was on a statewide ballot.

"Now we have different numbers to show them maybe we can get them to change their mind on that," says Smith.

Smith says she wants to celebrate the early win for a bit before the campaign approaches the Wasilla City Council.

"I want to thank everyone who showed up to the vote because they're the ones who did it," said Smith. "I'm very very proud to be a Mat Su stoner right now."

There are about 3,000 votes from early voting and question ballots that still need to be counted but the campaign opposing the ban feels confident they will swing in favor of their campaign.
