Wow. You are too kind. I killed one, almost killed another, and made 4 strong plants suffer unnecessarily with my overwatering.

Errr, what I meant to say was Thank you. I am enjoying learning about how to do a better job growing and look forward to making medicine.

never prune just to satisfy your human aesthetics... the plant does not care what it looks like and those leaves are still preforming vital functions, not to mention they are storehouses of nutrients that would simply be lost if you cut them off. If a leaf is in the way of a bud, sure, prune it... but always have a good reason to remove a leaf that the plant is still using.

I appreciate the compliments I've gotten on this grow, my first. I attribute the success to two things:

1. I studied the hell out of this before getting started. If you are considering growing cannabis then do your homework. I'm a busy guy and didn't know much about growing a tomato before I got started so it took me a few months to get a halfway decent grasp on medium, light, ventilation, flowering, harvest, etc;.. If you put the work in on the front end it is worth the effort. I still feel ill-prepared at times. I don't know how people who just decide to do it on a whim with no experience ever succeed. God bless 'em if it works for them.

2. 420 Magazine has the most helpful, kind, friendly, wonderful folks participating in these forums that you will find anywhere on or off line. You guys are always ready with answers to questions and sometimes you just see something and jump right in to offer advice. It is much appreciated and these plants would very likely not be alive without you. They would certainly not be thriving as they are. I'm not going to start naming names simply because I'll leave someone off. You also have been great with supporting me, not just the plants. I appreciate that as well - more than you know. Thank you all for being awesome you!

So, I know they’re all (except westly) already transplanted - and they will be fine I’m sure, Al. But,

Sorry folks, we went out to dinner. The roots were as the lower leaves and the droop told me they were... see that big feeder root there that is starting to wrap? That is the one the complaint is about. She wants room for that one, but has been forced to start wrapping her. My advice: get her in that 5 gal asap and be ready to do likewise to the others when they get this big and give that slightest little complaint.

I’m gonna politely disagree with this, Em. There’s nothing wrong with the roots circling the pot like that while you’re building roots with wet-dry cycles. Many of the best growers here actually aim to get their plants nice and root bound before up potting - and then they explode in to the new pot once transplanted.

If NL was dry as you say Al, when it was droopy like that, it probably only needed watering.

The only thing I’d say about that thicker root circling the bottom is that it is more akin to water roots than soil roots. In soil we want lots of fine hairy roots, not thick white ones like that so much. We get nice hairy roots by letting the pots dry out, which takes...

patience is required to get that rootball.

I think those plants had only just begun to settle into their 1 gal pots and could have had a few weeks in them and been fine. They’ll be fine in the new pots too - I just wanted to share that becoming rootbound is not, of itself, necessarily a problem.

IN any case, they’re all looking more and more well each time i visit. Oh, and you can totally add mycorrhizae to your water and water it in. NOt as good as in the soil at transplant but better than nothing for sure

Checkout this transplanting video from Doc Bud (on the page looked below). That plant is in a 1 gal pot. Doc does the small oil thing to extremes and sure it is in his kit, but its relevant to any soil grow. I thought it a good example of how a rootbound plant can be perfectly happy. Thriving even

I’ve seen Van Stank let his little ones get almost that rootbound in solo cups as well, with no issues. He doesn’t transplant until its nearly full of roots. If you’re watering and feeding right, it really isn’t an issue and can be quite a beneficial technique. Both Van and Doc grow about the best plants on the forum. Can’t argue with that.

The humidity here was mostly in the teens through late morning and afternoon. It got as low as 16% with a temp of about 90 F. In the closed tent it was a relatively steady 78-81 F and rarely did the humidity dip below 40% and then only with the ac on, which forces more air through the tent and also condenses moisture out of the air. This is going to be a struggle all summer especially.

Even after one grow I feel I will be much more confident with making decisions. That doesn't mean I won't ask for advice, but the point is I'm learning thanks to everyone here. I even learn from the minor disagreements and differences in growing styles.

P.S. What's a good cal-mag and any other supplement good to have on hand for a soil grow? I don't want to feed nutes or anything at all if I can get away with it but want to have anything I might need on hand just in case or even if it should be a matter of course.
