We are proud to announce a special event, organised to honour a special
person, who introduced a special novelty to the world 30 years ago : the
Dutch Hashcoffeeshop.
For Wernard ! By Wernard ?
The opening evening of this event is dedicated to Wernard Bruining, the man
who set up and ran the Mellow Yellow coffeeshop in Amsterdam, with some good
friends and allies.
Wernard and Co just did it, they started selling hash and weed from a
steady, public location, in a covert way, but as open as could be, those
days. Little did they know that they were the trendsetters for the modern,
more commercial way of selling smokeable cannabisproducts, besides offering
a safe enviroment to consume softdrugs and softdrinks. Wernard also opened
the first growshop in the Netherlands, Positronics, and started the Mediweed
system in 1996, wich is still active today.
He paved the way to the industry our culture has 'grown' in to, by just
doing the things he believed were the right things to do, with heart and
soul.
The entire evening will be a 'Tribute to Wernard', in order to show are
appreciation for what he initiated, by offering him a special award, for a
lifetime achievement in the cannabis-culture, in Holland and in the rest of
the world.
The program will be available soon, we are still inviting the proper guests
from Wernards past, to make the evening a reunion of some of the cannabis
greats.
We have also started a fundraiser for Wernard, who's Positronics went
bankrupt in 1997, leaving him with his personal belongings only. The Dutch
cannabis entrepreneurs will all be asked to contribute to the 'Tribute to
Wernard' fundraiser, I think we have the plight to show him we realise what
he did for their businesses, as they are today.

One thing is for sure, Wernard is going to introduce a new cannabis tasting
and testing event, wich will start running right after he announced his
brainchild, wich he has nursed for some time now.
Wernards "Hash & Weed Festival" will be the most democratic way of comparing
hash and weed, by involving everyone visiting the event to be the jury, and
to cast their votes after testing it in a numbered joint, pure or with
tobbacco, up to the individual tester.
The event will take place from Friday-evening, after Wernard explains the
how and why of this new initiative, wich will become international in 2003.
The Hash and Weed testing and tasting will continue on Saturday November 30
and Sunday December 1, the results will be made public on Sunday evening,
with awards handed out to the best Hash & Weed tasted and tested.
His ideas turned our 'Tribute to Wernard' event into the pilot-project for
an international cannabis tasting and testing event for the future, and
makes it last for a full weekend now, possibly paving the way to a worldwide
unity for cannabisgrowers and -smokers.
We can only give it our best to make our 'Tribute to Wernard' and Wernards
Hash & Weed Festival a succes, worthy to lead the way to the international
event we want it to grow in to, and a wonderfull experience for all
involved, especially Wernard, of course.
We will come up with the details as soon as we worked them out, but keep the
dates in mind: November 29-30, December 1 , 2002, and try to make it to
Haarlem, and Wernard.
