Hi Lizard,
Congrats man. I jus bought my plane tickets the other day, but I wont be going until New Years. Anyway, Amsterdam has some great coffeeshops....and some shitty coffeeshops. Here are some good ones:
1. Barneys: Barneys is, in my opinion, the BEST coffee shop in Amsterdam. THe buddah is top notch and the winner of several cannabis cups. The food there is amazing and deliscous. The atmosphere (music, air filter, setup)is soothing. Make sure to order either their Irish or American breakfast, and if you love chocolate, ask to use (for free of course) their VOlcano Vaporizor, use it, then order a "Death By Chocolate". You will not regret it (Alhough you might not ermember it LOL).

2. Gray Area: This is a great coffeeshop operated by 2 Americans, from Oklahoma if memory serves me right. I chatted with one of them for a while 2 years ago, but I was pretty stoned. They also have an excellent supply of goodies, specificaly their Nederlander Hash (W O W!!!).

3. Bluebird: One of my favorite shops for Hash, an outstandnig selection of global proportions. They have a huge catalog that you can flip through with sealed samples of their goods, from all over the world, which you use to order from. Although the similarity in their name is just coincidence, their Blueberry chronic was the best out of all the shops I went to. I recomend this place for taht and it's hash selection. if you want to try hashish from all over the globe, go here.

4. Bulldog Cafe: There are actualy 2 or 3 of these shops in Amsterdam, and they arent particulalry special in terms of buddah quality, or price for that matter. What's nice is, you can rush into one of them, (Especially sice the one near VOndelpark is right next to a movie theater, a casino, and walking distance from the Brewery, excellent activites after getting ripped!), quickly smoke, and then move on with your explorations. Its also nice because they sell a pack of 4 purple haze joints for 12 bucks (And these ar stadium joints), so you can dash in, grap a pack of those, and be on your merry way with some nice joints i your pocket. Alose of note are their space cakes. Pretty potent.

5. Blue Velvet: This is a nice chill spot. WHen I was there 2 years ago, the white cat that is their main logo for for their shop was still alive and was a whopping 22 years old, according to the owner!!!!! I pet that thing for an hour when I was really messed up, and it moved like an ancient turtle. It would get up, walk S L O W L Y across the bar, slowly lap up some milk, and lay down again. You could tell this thing was ancient, but it was still alive and kicking. I hope the kitty is still alive when I go there at the end of this year. Even if it's not, the place is worth a visit for its relaxing atmosphere and good selection.
Those are my top 5. Here's a complte listing though for your browsing convience: Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory

I've been to almost every place on that list (And some places that ARENT on that list), and everyone has their own preferences and reasons for those preferance, so I suggest you visit all the shops. THe top 5 I listed happen to be MY favorite places ;-)
One thing to keep in mind, DO NOT be tempted to run into the first shop you see when getting off the train. Most of the shops that are closest to the train station suck because people are so excited they rush into the closest shop they find. THey overcharge for, compared to the rest of Amsterdams goodies, mid level weed. Almost everyone whos been to Amsterdam will tell you barneys is one of the, if not THE, best coffee shop there. Its best to start at the top and then go exploring other shops so you have a point of reference for decent prices, good weed, and good selection.

Thank you very much PM, Does anyone know what kind of weather to expect in August... Also I still trying to find some info on the Coffee shop that is a boat I think, I know Cheech and Chong did a movie there...hmmm, back to looking it up...

PS, I am soo F*CKING HAPPY!!!!

Lizard, you're going to have a freaking blast. How long are you going for? I've never been to Europe in the summer time, my eye condition sort of forces me to travel in the winter. Crowds might be a bit heavier during August, but dude, you'll be in Amsterdam so you just wont care :) I never came across a boat coffee shop, could the store haev been fabricated or located outside of Amsterdam in another part of The NEtherlands?

I'm going for anywhere from 5-7 days, depending on the hotel, but yea I hope to have fun ( I know I will) thanks for all the info so far, I will be bringing my Camcorder, so after I get back, I'll throw a movie on here for you guys...

go to the white dolphin, and try their white dolphin weed and smoke it out of their white dolphin vaporizers, it was my favorite!

the have coffeeshop and smartshops maps of all the 300 coffeeshops so you wont have a prob finding them, you should def try to go to as many diff ones as possible.

/Where do I get these maps...?

Nice Isos. Lizardking, I know this sounds strange coming from a pot smokers mouth, but 7 -10 days is just the right amount of time to spend in Amsterdam. I stayed for 12 days once, and really, it was just too much. It's fun being stoned like you've never been stoned before 24/7 for the first few days, but after a while, it really starts to burn you out (especially since everything costs money, the cheapest of which is the weed). Dont get me wrong, you'll be crying the day you leave, but my personal experience has been any longer than 10 days and you just get totast-ti-fied.
