AUBURN, Maine -- The governor's special medical marijuana task force has finished a series of hearings on how to implement Maine's new medical marijuana law, but many local officials said they still have many unanswered questions and concerns about the dispensaries.

The Auburn City Council held a workshop Monday night to discuss a possible 90-day moratorium on dispensaries in the city, an idea proposed by Auburn Police Chief Phil Crowell. Last week, officials in Brewer approved a moratorium on marijuana dispensaries.

Crowell said several issues remain unaddressed, and he wants to provide the proper safeguards for the community.

"We need more time to at least take a look at the language," Crowell said. "What exactly is in that language? Who's going to be operating this business? Who is this business going to be reporting to?"

The chief said a moratorium would allow officials to "take a look at where the best place (is) in our community for that business to operate."

The proposed moratorium issue goes before the City Council at the next meeting.
