Phoenix - It appears recreational marijuana faces a tough fight at the ballot box, according to a new survey.
A recent poll conducted by OH Predictive Insights, a research polling company, found 51 percent of those asked are against legalizing recreational marijuana while 40 percent are for it. The survey was taken between Aug. 24 and Aug. 27.
The results aren't that different from a poll taken on June 20 where 53 percent of people surveyed said 'No' to recreational marijuana while 39 percent said 'Yes.'
"As of right now, the pro-side is down 14 points with females, tied with Independents 45/45 and losing Republicans by two-thirds," Mike Noble, managing partner of OH Predictive Insights and chief pollster, said.
If Prop. 205 passed, adults 21 and older could carry up to one ounce of marijuana and consume it privately. Adults could also cultivate up to six marijuana plants in an enclosed space and possess the marijuana produced by the plants. No more than a dozen plants would be allowed in a single residence.
Noble believes election turnout will be a factor
"It is interesting to point out that for every voter who pulls the lever for Donald Trump this November has a 72 percent likelihood they will vote 'No' on legalizing recreational Marijuana. Conversely, Hillary Clinton voters have a 57 percent likelihood of voting 'Yes' on legalizing recreational marijuana," Noble said.
Voters in at least four other states will decide whether to make recreational marijuana legal. They are California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada. Alaska, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington state have already legalized recreational usage, as well as medical marijuana for adults.
