Bassman Strips The Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation - DWC-RDWC - 1K Watts Of Madness!

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

I see a wrestling match coming your way Bass.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Indeed. First round is tomorrow when I have to bend again. I'll need to take some closeups as they grew a good 2" the last 24 hrs.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Unfortunately they are not as bushy as they really should be going into 12/12. My fault really.

But they are filling in.

And now I'm bending like a mofo. You'll have to look close to see on some of these, but the two tall girls on the right I have lowered by a good 8" through bending. All main branches are below off shoots now and some off shoots are being bent too. As it stands now the canopy is about 12" from the light. Some of these branches have been bent 4 times already and will surely see more.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Sorry for getting so behind!

It does look like you'll have a battle on your hands with size. Some of the Sativa-heavier plants will just stretch and stretch... My Super Lemon Haze was still growing upwards a bit at week 7! Indoors with Sativas, I like to make sure I'm at no more than about 10-12" before flipping to bloom, but I'm already bending them sideways before then too, if I have the time. However, I'll admit that since I just grow for me, yield is actually not my primary goal either. I still want to yield decently for pride, but I can stay plenty stocked up without monster yields.

Growing can be a lot of work, especially if you have other things going in life. The worst, is when life gets in the way between weeks 3 of veg, and week 2 of bloom. If you're not really manageing the garden nightly, things just get out of hand and they lose their flexibility. I've really made a point lately to carve out enough time during late veg/early bloom phase to try to be more hands on, because I've really screwed the pooch a few times when my health made it difficult to spend the time on them - I paid for it dearly with headaches through the stretch. Anyway, I can relate!

Also, big time bravo on the RDWC set-up. You've really got it set-up nicely. Very nice DIY "undercurrent" style system. The bigger PVC should help a lot with the flow, and the chiller will keep it really dialed in. This is as nice of a DWC system as I've seen anyone use lately, and will really perform nicely for you. I'm frankly, a bit jealous! I have been saving up kitty litter buckets (square ones - they work nicely for this sort of thing) to do something similar eventually, but I sort of fell in love with the Flo N Gro, and put it on the back burner. You did it just like I'd do it, other than the square bucket thing. :)

Very well done, Bass! :bravo:

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Thanks for the comments X. I really take the compliment on my rdwc with pride. Coming from you, someone whom I believe to be quite good at this, mucho thanks.

I now dont think they are more sativa dominant. I think it was just me letting them get way too tall when I should have been bending and or topping and certainly stripping again in veg to slow them down.

I know better.

Update coming.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Update:

Day 9 in flower, day 14 in 12/12

Did a res change yesterday and mixed nutrient to BPN 2 part week 7-8 schedule. Adding 8ml/g B52, 5ml/g cal mag, 6ml/gal hygrozyme, 6ml/g BPN Liquid Blue Bloom Booster. PPM 1200 on .500 conversion, 2.4 e.c. I'll thin it down a little bit in the next few days.

Temps and ph are fine.

Girls are stretching like crayzeeeee! I am doing super cropping bends almost daily. I had to take the hangars of the hood and hang the ratchets directly to the bracket to get 3" inches of light height. There is no way in hell I can get good penetration to the bottom of the girls. They are just too tall. But we are starting to get a more even canopy.

I'll probably have to strip them in a week or less (yes during stretch) to shut down stretch just to stop them from getting so tall. I don't think I really have a choice.

I may also need to add another tier to the outside pvc frame so I can make a 2nd tier of netting. That could be a real challenge to do in the middle of the grow.

I also think my hood is too small for the tent. I need a bit wider angle to cover the canopy top completely with them being this close to the light. But I also need the reflector to be a 6" vent with 8" or so total height so I can get as much height as possible out of it.

I'm going to make a promise to myself to never let another veg go so loosely.

I've also broken and killed 2-3 good branches with slips in bending. Tried repairing but they were too far gone. What a bonehead.

I think, thanks to screwing the veg pooch, I'll be lucky to get 2# dry. But I think we'll still see a good end product and yield for a 4 plant grow.

Today's pics are just to give a general idea about how much bending I'm doing and how they just curl right up for the light after doing so. You'll see some branches have scar tissue from 2-3 previous bends too. They really are a pretty sturdy plant.

Also going to germinate 4 new Master Kush female seeds today. 24 hr soak, then paper towel method.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

I went vertical simply to make it easier to run dissimilar plants and have less battle with height. My newest change is to run a light mover with the light traveling vertically 2 feet or so. I know you can't use Led's vertically but I have found my 400 watt HPS pretty good at covering 3'x3'. When I get around to my next seed run this will be awesome.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

In case you missed it Dr, I'm running this grow with 1k watt HPS. Because of the type of growing I'm doing with larger plants than the led really is suited for, I've been forced to make the switch.

I'm now kind wondering why I bought a new 5'x5' tent. Other than providing side reflection and a place to hang the light, it's more of a complication because of the tighter parameters. Had I put out the effort, I probably could have made a ceiling height stand for the light and pvc framed up panda film or mylar. It's a 10'x10' bedroom and I don't want to pound any nails into any walls or ceiling.

So today I looked in shortly after lights on. Girls are doing great. They stretched a little last night and the bends from yesterday were successful. The center of canopy is about 13" from the light and I have maybe 3" more travel available. The avg height is about 33" with some of the outer most branches at 40". Maybe 4-5 of those tall ones. First thought is to turn the girls 90-180 degrees and bend those tall ones. The issue there is it's going to be hard as hell to turn them with the strings in place and opposing plant branches reaching out to each other, etc. I'm sure I'd miss seeing some being caught in the string and thus breaking beyond repair.

Every time I think about it I get a little bit irritated I screwed the pooch so bad in veg letting them get this tall rather than wide. I knew better.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Shit happens Bass and we learn from our mistakes and your in a learning process right now. I wouldn't sweat it too much my friend. It will all turn out just fine.

Did the UBT on my new babies today. I also cut a few of the fan leaves off each one. Going to try your method in tent 2 and see if light defol every other day on each plant helps them or hurts them.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Im in for the bud porn. My friend works for DNA genetics in Amsterdam and kosher is next on my list along with a few other strains, including purple OG #18.

Good luck bro but im sure you wont need it.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

I think the 1000 watt HPS is the way to go generally. I can't smoke more than my 400 watter can grow and thats with just 3 runs a year. I got 7 ounces of very fine smoke my last run without a light mover and 2 weeks veg. I guess I am a light smoker because I rarely somke a half ounce a week anymore. Of the good stuff anyway.

Is this the method you always use?

seems a lot of people use the paper towel method to germ seeds. Ive found 24 hrs in water or untill the seed cracks and the tap root just shows, then putting them right into soil works. I've had 100% success this way.

Feel a bit like the student teaching the teacher here but just thought i'd throw it out there and see what the experts think. :peace:

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Hey welcome shmoke.

Yes, I soak em for a crack, then paper towel till I get a taproot, then into root riot cubes, humidity dome. One I get roots through the cubes I drop em into my buckets. Sometimes waiting till roots are maybe an inch or two long through the cubes. But you get the idea. I think I had 1 not take but that's it, nothing to fret over for sure.

Just checked on em, about 22 hrs or so, 3 are cracked, 1 is almost cracked, I'll give it a few hours then paper towel. They'll be into root riot cubes by Fri-Sat I'm sure.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

How long do you try getting the tap root before putting them in RR cubes?

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

depends kinda on my work hours it often seems. If they are less than 1/4" before I go to work, then when I get back home they may be 3/4" or more and I drop them then.

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

here is a idea I came up with for the RR cubes that any can try for cloneing or planting seedlings as you do Mr Bassman.

I take a small straw (old coke staw works well) push it up through the RR cube gently, use a sharp small object to make a pilot hole for the straw 1st, once through you can insert roots or clone with out any frustrations, once in place hold the clone and RR cube and remove straw RR cube will shrink around the roots or clone and it just don't get any simpler

Re: Bassman Strips the Kosher Kush! Hi-Defoliation, DWC-RDWC, 1k watts of Madness!

Not bad sg, not bad at all. I have actually been splitting the rr cubes (butterfly type) and placing the seedling where I want it then into the holder where the cube closes up around the seed. But a small twisty would work too. Though I do like your idea for clones and I will have to try that if I can remember to save a straw for such use.

Yes I do this with seedlings also. except as soon as they crack (24hrs) and show they're a good seed I stick them in tail facing down with shell casing still on pushing ever so slightly with a small pointed object until in place. I check and relive a little presser as necessary for seedling to pop through and drop the casing just as in nature. I have not lost a clone or seedling since I started using RR cubes. And my clones get no humidity dome or heating pad. just a squirt of water a few times a day (tough love, only the strong survive)
