Ok so today i innoculated 6 bags of uncle bens whole grain brown rice. 1st i sprayed small area on kitchen counter with some lysol after i cleaned real good. Took a shower, pulled hair back, and got to work. Next i donned some nitrile gloves and cleaned and sprayed monotub, bags, and scissors with 70%iso. Then i cut all the pieces of micro tape i was gonna need for all the holes. Next i shook syringe of liquid culture Jedi mind fuck(jmf). Then i quickly, but with slow movements, so i would minimize air movement, wiped needle with iso then torched it and injected .5cc into 3 bags, and 1cc into other 3 bags. And taped up holes immediately. I sterilized needle after every innoculation. Then i took needle off syringe and torched it to punch holes in the top of bags I put 2 holes in 3 bags and 4 holes in other 3. Sealed holes immediately after sticking them. Placed bags In sealed monotub, now the wait. I'll check bags in about 7 days or so to see if anything is happening.

Im excited to explore this new hobby, bc me and the ole lady love us some gourmet mushrooms, but these jmf's are for me. Wanna get some oyster and portabello spores or lc. Wifes already talking about what kind she wants, lol. Gonna be a great adventure!!! Took a couple of pics. I will be having a lot of pics when warranted.

Ok so today is day 5, and i dont see any white, or anything. But patience is a virtue, and something ive been working on for 55 years. They say it usually takes 7-10 days before you should see something, but not sure. Didnt smell any bad smells so i guess I'm good.

I do have one question for the pros, am l supposed to let these uncle bens bags get air? I have them in the medium sized(48qts) monotub with black plugs in the holes. Was thinking about taking 2 out and putting filters on. Any suggestions. I did crack monotub for about 10min, until i thought about it, its supposed to be sterile idiot, and ran back in and closed it. Hope i didnt contaminate it!!!

Hey awesome to see the grow going man. I did some Ben’s and cut a small piece out and put the mictopore tape on it for a small vent. I thought it was super sketchy when I did it and only did it to a couple. I didn’t have luck with all the Ben’s. You could always do that and try a couple and leave the others without and see what works best when it’s all done. Also 10 days seems very fast. It was at least three weeks before I saw anything start to grow. There are a couple others around that are WAY better than I with the mushroom grows and I hope they have a better answer for you than me.

Yeah i punctured bags with sterilized needle to make vent holes. I did 3 bags with 2 holes and 3 with 4 holes.

Don't know how I missed this journal, but I'm here to follow now, if that's okay. :)

Hiya bgsixxx your off to a great start.
What temp are the uncle Ben's bags hanging at?
Hello rose, I keep the monotub in a closet in the house which stays at 73°f. Is it supposed to be warmer? Ive read between 70-80°f is optimal.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Its my busy season.🎅 73° is good.

Been checking on bags, 3 of the bags feel hard and look white on the bottoms. 2 of the bags feel about 3/4 of the way colonized and they are also mostly white on the bottom, and one bag nothing, just like it was the day i bought it.
So was thinking about taking the 3 to 5 good bags and mixing them into a monotub with 5lbs of substrate. Or i have 3 12qt shoebox type totes, was thinking 2 bags in one tote with 2.5lbs of substrate, and 3 bags in the other 2.5lbs of substrate. Any suggestions. Was thinking going with 2 totes Will up my chances of success.

Ok so finally got 4 bags of mycelium and 1 bag was half way but looked off and 1 bag was still just rice, tossed those 2. I just kept the four bags that had nice blocks. No contamination on those, smelled mushroomy.lol

Always saw people breaking up mycelium and it looked dry on camera, but mines had a sticky moist feel to it....hope thats right. But while i was breaking it up, the smell really hit, no off odors at all. So mixed it with the 5lbs of substrate, well about 2.5lbs per tub. Also put a layer of substrate on top, kinda like a casing layer. And of course i was dutiful in spraying everything down with 70%iso. Was gonna use trash bags as liners to prevent side pinning, but didnt have any black ones, so went without. Made sure to press the sides down. Misted the top and sides with water, also misted surface of soil. Got them sittin on top of grow tent covered up with a blanket. I dont think the totes are air tight, so hope it works.
Snapped a couple of pics, really nothing to see yet. I guess im supposed to leave them alone for 10 days or so before looking, dont know. Will go research.

That's a nice block of mycelium! Mine have always been a little bit sticky as well, you don't want it too dry.
Looking forward to your progress. 🍄 🍄

Thanks for the reply, wasn't sure if i did it right. I broke it up pretty good and mixed it with substrate. Then put a layer of substrate over top. Pressed sides pretty good and misted sides down, and surface a lil. Not gonna look for 10 days, that'll be hard.

I used to tease @Lady Cannafan about no peeking in on the shrooms. I still think she peeks in on them from time to time. I cant lie I peek on them too. It's fascinating to watch them grow.

Gonna be tough with this low humidity. I dont know how well these totes keep humidity in.

Was thinking about some all in one bags, anyone ever try those, and any good brands? Id rather just shoot em up and break them up and wait. Plus i could put them in my grow tent to boost co2. Seems like a win win!
