Re: Shelves

My 1st thought was shelves. After looking at ur set up again. If ur were to install shelves do u anticipate a lot of shading from them? Being that the light is in the center I'm not sure how it would affect the girls. What do u think?

I was thinking about putting a shelf around the perimeter just deep enough to hold some 1 gal pots. It would be easy as there's already a 2x3 running around there. I would add a bare 600 hanging right above the 1k. /the plants on bottom would be 4 weeks ahead of the top ones. Just until I set up my vertical sog. Likely do 80-160 little ones. Still thinking if I want to take on the extra work.

Really impressed with your indoor grow room setup. The money you have spent has been well worth the cost. Sometimes you have to spend money to get things right and your room is the classic example! Its already got em but its 5 stars from me to you!

i have a ledge in my room on one side and its great for the red cups and my 1 gallon pots. the size of your room is perfect for it, go for it!! put that ledge up and another light and those plants will go crazy. but as you and others have said... its more work. i prefer a few large plants to lots of small ones but i also like increasing my yield and using more of the available light

I have this new design in my head. I was going to put a vertical sog in there with 80+ clones. Real short veg time and see how that works. This is in line with my original plan. however, after getting things underway, I am re-considering having that many plants going. I'm having trouble getting 30 cuttings ready to go at the same time. How will I manage 100!

My new garden is a copy of an idea I saw elsewere. It will utilize 42" vertical tubes filled with coco and plants cut into the sides. the rez under them will just be a pond liner to catch the runoff as it will run drain to waste. Each tube can hold 6 plants easy.

The tubes are actually smart pots made to order. Here's a picture.

You just cut a, X or + into the pot wherever you want to plant to go.

I've always wanted to do a vertical grow like the cage or coli but don't have that kind of money to experiment with. This is under 200 bucks and I expect it to work as well or better.

Just have to decide if I want to take on the extra challanges and work.

i am happy you are thinking ahead... my dad and me had the same issue... he built a huge system and we didnt have any cloners or a nice light to run em under. plus its a first attempt. that mad scientist approach can bite you in the ass, the worst thing is to bite off more than you can chew... im already busy in my room each day just with the potted stuff. and a few days i have went down and found a puddle because a puck didnt get put in enough. not only is that messy and increasing humidity but if buds were below the pipe there, which they will be soon i will have mold out the ass...harvest gone, cry. currently if its not watering its kneeming, then repotting, then pruning and stem bending... all while im workin a harvest in the other 12 hours.

Thanks!. It did evolve over time as well. didn't drop it all at once. and that does include pretty much everything. Appreciate the stars.

Try it and start a journal in a separate thread. Just try not to put all ur eggs in one basket.

I probably will. hopefully, things will become more civalized after the new year.

It all seems so do-able when your sitting on the couch watching the daily show with a bong in hand, but in reality!
Since my box isn't at my house. I only have time for visits and brief maintenence. I have to schedule in any bigger jobs because I'm so busy and I need unaccountable time since it's on the DL.

I really do want to do at least one killer vertical grow. The smart pot vertical system is super cheap and easy, it's just all of the cuttings that I think will be the most time consuming. Plus how do you get 100 plus clones ready at the same time. I have such varying rooting rates. Can be as little as 7 days up to 3 weeks.

Perhaps as my skill level increases I'll figure it out.

Just received a new CO2 controller today, my room automation system is going to be to hard to re-install in the middle of this grow so I picked up this new controller on ebay for 280.00 shipped. It figures these become less expensive after I drop coin on automation! Actually, I'll do a journal on my room automation once I get it back in, it's really cool when it's full on.

barring any unforseen circumstances, i should have the 4 week photo spread tomorrow. It's time for some bud porn.

Girls are thickening up nicely, I have been running the room hot at 85 and 50%rh, the outside temps are all over the place. When it's really cold and I open the box, the temps go from 87 to 63 in a few minutes. I have started to pull the temps down for a day temp of about 75 and night in the 60s. 5 week update w/photos wednesday.

Hey man, excellent set up. You are going to be amazed at the amount of bud you are going to get from that vertically hung light. I harvested 7 plants and got almost a lb from a 600 vertically hung, and I know I could have gotten way more because temps were high and I nute burned the shit out of em. I am using a tent and the temps can get pretty up there. A suggestion for you since you are having the same problem, add a few vent holes in the plywood and if u have the money hook 1 or 2 exhaust fans up to them. Should bring the temps down for you.

Also, are you sucking air out of the box through the cool tube?
+reps for the DIY and the great start.

Berry out :allgood:

thanks Berry! Actually the high temps are intentional. I run 100% sealed with 1500ppm co2 enrichment. To accelerate the plants intake of water and nutrient to take advantage of the enriched air, you run the room hotter. Now that I'm closing in on the final stretch I'm going to draw the temps down. I have an airconditioner that recirculates the air.

There are 4 that were vegged 5 weeks and 6 that were vegged from a couple of days to a couple of weeks.

the cool tube is the fresca sol water cooled. and I agree the vertical setup is the way to go. I'm hoping for a nice pull right around christmas.

I have a question about the DIY chiller. How do you control the res temp and how to you shut off the chiller once it reaches your desired temp?

Also i was told buy someone that the fresca sol preformed best with a smaller pump along the lines of 100gph...seems to me that this wouldn't be enough to overcome the head. Do you know what the estimated GPH might be for your setup?

The heat exchanger you see submerged in the water, had a thermocoupler attached to it, that went right in with it. The controls on the ac work exactly the same. Mine are analog, which is the easiest to do, no digital control. I put a fish tank thermometer inside and just lower the control until it stabilized where I wanted it. It keeps it there from that point on.

I believe it was liquid lumens that said on their website that a lower flow is better, and if you balance it out right there would be negative pressure or more suction than push. This would make it more leak proof. I run mine on a 600 gph @ 1 ft pump, I would guess I;m probably at about 1/3 of that since I'm at about 4ft lift. I have run it on a larger 1400 gph and will be going back to it because it has a uv filter in it. I just divert 70% back into rez.

It's time for the 5 week pictorial, things are going well. Temps are all over the place outside so control has been difficult. Will likely try to re-install my automation system this weekend. Should take care of this roller coaster ride.
