The Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department is encouraging those running medical marijuana growing operations to deliver marijuana plants and all marijuana products to the police station before the new law goes into effect on July 1.

Montana's new restrictive medical marijuana overhaul law will be fully implemented on July 1. Sheriff John Walsh says storefronts are required to close by midnight on June 30.

In order to make a smooth transition the police department is now accepting marijuana plants pulled from the pots, seeds and any products with THC in it.
"Unless there's some kind of injunction that comes in to stop this process, but we want to be prepared and let people know what people should do with this product if that doesn't occur," Walsh said.

Medical marijuana supporters filed a lawsuit against the state of Montana, which will be heard by a judge on June 20 and 21.

Walsh says no containers, grow lights, dirt or water systems will be taken at the police department.
