Medical marijuana is buy one, get one free on the popular website Groupon is now offering. But only five dispensaries in the state are allowed to sell it, under Florida law. Is it legal?

The company is offering to ship CBD oil, which is the active ingredient in Charlotte's Web. They call it a hemp extract, and all you need is a credit card.

Governor Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 1030 in 2014 legalizing low-THC cannabis for medicinal use.

Five dispensaries are legally allowed to give cannabidiol, or CBD, to patients with a physician's order who suffer from conditions like cancer or seizure disorders.

This ad for Charlotte's Web on Groupon offers 500 milligrams for $75.

Surterra Therapeutics, based in Homestead, is one of five dispensaries allowed to give CBD to patients, and is the dispensary for Southwest Florida.

Patients who will legally use CBD under Florida's new law must be state residents and are required to use CBD under the supervision of their physician.

"They evaluate the patient face to face and then they order it, and the patient basically comes and fills that order."

Surterra Medical Director Dr. Joe Dorn stresses the importance of going to a licensed facility for CBD.

"I certainly wouldn't give it to kids with seizures, goodness gracious," he said.

So far, more than 700 purchases have been made of the Charlotte's Web on Groupon.

We reached out to Groupon and Happy Leaves for comment but did not hear back.

Surterra Therapeutics says it will begin dispensing CBD oil to patients within the next few weeks.
