A CANNABIS bust near Tailem Bend has prevented thousands of dollars worth of illegal party drugs entering South Australia, police say.

The major interstate drug trafficking operation was smashed on Wednesday when police found more than 26kg of cannabis hidden in plastic bags in the floor of a van on the Dukes Highway about 5.30pm.

Detective Superintendent Paul Dickson, of the Drug Investigation branch, said police would allege the cannabis, worth about 30,000 street deals, would have been sold in New South Wales to buy recreational drugs.

A man, 53, and a woman, 51, both of Hillbank, were arrested after the raid.

Three luxury vehicles, several weapons and $290,000 in cash were seized from houses at Hillbank, Cavan and Crafers West.
