How often are you watering? Every 4 hours for 15 minutes
Type and strength of ferts used? Nutriplex, as per feeding chart

I have one grow under the belt. Scaling it up a on this grow
I have never tried top feed with rockwool so any advice would be much appreciated
I'm mostly copying TheCapn's style but unfortunately where I live, complex nutrients are hard to come by but the search will continue. I also would love to use beneficial bacteria but products like Great White are non existant here so hopefuly I can get a substitute
Currently I'm using CFL's and flourecents but wil upgrade to MH as soon as I can
I was planning to have plants a month apart but got the two clones at the same time. Planning to strech the Jack veg time so they'll be further apart

Perpetual grow. 4 plants, each a month apart. Hoping to harvest a plant each month

Changed the lights a bit

I got two clones from a friend, White widow & Jack Herer

Week 1:
The Jack is on the right. Looked a bit sick, not sure why

Week 2:
Jack looking much beter but both plants still have white spots. I did some research and apparently this is from foilar spray during lights on. Now, I only spray during lights off. Hopefully this is the right diagnosis. Additional info would be much appreciated

Roots reaching the bottom, I'll be transplanting them into 20cm airpots soon

Subbed. I don't grow hydro so am just along for the ride if I may. Look up Skybound and go4snyper. They are the two I can think of at the moment who have grown this way and are still around. Way more likely that they will see the title and find you here though.

I threw my old nutrients away, they were super shit. Got much beter nuts now and expecting quicker growth. Also got Amonimix for optimum nutrient uptake. Installing MH today. Praying next post plants will be much bigger... fingers crossed

Hey guys. For me DIY'ing is almost more fun than growing. I save tons of cash and it keeps me (very) busy. O.K so this is the new reflector hood under construction. I ran out of sheet metal so the sides will come at a later stage. I'll also paint it white this week sometime. But for now its doing its thing

It's still very dry here in Africa. Spring rain should arrive soon but till then the RH is very low. Like 10% low. So here's another DIY project. I used a bucket full of water with a small water pump that jets water against a small plastic dome. I had a spare in-line fan so I hooked it all up and voila! 60%RH no probs

Onto the plants. Finally got some air pots and transplanted them on Thursday. The new nutes are so much beter. Starting to see some fast growth, well at least one plant. The Jack Herer is really suffering since the transplant and I'm not sure why. Both plants get exactly the same of everything. Leaves are dry and I'm pretty sure its in heal mode as growth is minimal.

Hey CC. Looking good nice diy! I love the diy stuff too. Kind of a necessity where I live anyway.
I wish I was able to help you more with diagnosing your plants' issues. My ignorance of growing hydro is a problem here. They're looking pretty good though- i am not sure what the white specks are from. The obvious things to check would be ph-(sounds like you're watching that) and mites. Hopefully not the latter though they're definitely capable of causing white specks like that.
I'm not sure why the plants are a little off color and yellow like that. If they were in soil I would guess either overwatering leading to N deficiency- or underfeeding also causing N deficiency. I'm not much of an expert when it comes to guessing deficiencies. Is it possible to overwater in rockwool at this stage of growth? I'm sure it is at the earliest stages, because I'm familiar with it for cloning- and the stuff can definitely hold a lot of water.
Looking forward to watching these ones grow.

Made a scrog today. Was all pretty straight foward.

My old watering system kept on clogging so I decided to do it right, finally.
Note: The small pipe is just for the centre, there are much more outlets on the bottom but they're just not visible from this angle.

Painting my reflector hood tommorow. Will post pics

Just a quick up-date
Week 7:

The Jack is finally growing like it should. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise. Because I'm follow the Cap'n perpetual grow I actually needed plants to be one month apart.

I painted my reflector hood white and I'm busy building a cloner. Also, I ordered a very cool thermostat with a hot and cool setting. I'll probably get it tomorrow. Planning on hooking up a heater for the low. I saw a nifty DIY aircon (aka Swamp cooler) on Instructables, I'll hook it up to the high setting. Click HERE for the tutorial.

Week 8

I received my thermostat and water pump in the mail 3 days ago and just in time. We've hit full blown African summer. Day temps are around 30c (86F) and like 34c (93F) in the garage. Nights are still cool tho

So I've been busy building and improving a lot this week
As mentioned in my last post I built a very VERY effective swamp cooler. It can bring the temperature down to 20C in my tent and also increases my RH . Super impressed. This now kicks in when the temps reach 28C and shuts off at 24C.

For heating I took apart an old heater and mounted it on a bucket. This kicks in at 20C and shuts off at 24C.

I am very impressed how good this system works. My temps never exceed the values set in the thermostat.

Ive searched high and low for ingredients to make beneficial bacteria. The range of nutes in South Africa are extremely limited and importing from the US is just crazy expensive. Hope all you guys realise how friggin lucky you are with the wide range of nutes you guys have
I'm hoping someone can help me with this comparison I made. Is this the right stuff and how would I know how what kinda ratios to mix all this to???? Any help PLEASE!!!!

I had to increase my inlet size from outside and surprise surprise. Look what I found. Birdies obviously thought this would make a great house.. Haha

Onto the plants. I added extra scrogs to make better use of the light and because the White Widow is just growing so flippin fast.

Oh and a quick question. How do I know when to transplant to bigger pots? The White Widow has roots growing out the bottom but I'm not sure how to tell if the roots have reached the pot size limit.

I'm barely propping my eyes open so I'll check this out better tomorrow man. Looking very cool. I do know that the Cap'n style guys transplant when the plants are rootbound enough to hold the rockwool together nicely. The pics on some of those journals tell the story. Can you ease the pot off a bit and see?

You will need bigger pots for sure, the catch is, I dont put a screen on mine until the day it goes into flower. you will have a hard time re-potting those while under the screen.. As for when to re-pot, I usually give it a couple of weeks in each pot. With no net you can just turn the pot over and pop the plant out and see how full of roots it is and go from there.

The branches don't look so entangled with the screen yet that you can't remove them quite easily at this point though. I love that diy stuff you're doing. Birds seem to like the operation too

The scrog is made out of one piece of rope hooked around screws. Removing it would not be a hassle at all!!

Thanks for the advice. I'll take the scrog out tomorrow and flip her to see what's cooking!

I'll do a little more research on your question about bennies when I get a minute, and at least find you some good links. I get the sense that the ratios don't matter all that much. You just need a source of bennies, some food for them (molasses and nutrient), and the environment - and I don't think you can go too wrong. +reps on holding all that gear together, by the way.

looking at your first page you said your watering 4 times a day?? I guess if your not seeing any signs of over watering then keep at it, I water once a day in veg and twice a day in flower using rock wool.
