Casino security cameras led to the recent arrest of two Bay City men caught on video passing a joint in the Soaring Eagle parking lot.

Once tipped, police were able to see the suspects smoking marijuana on video monitors inside the Tribal Police Department, according to court documents.

Valentino A. Love, 57, of Bay City faces a preliminary examination before Isabella District Judge William R. Rush on Thursday.

David K. Leavitt, 35, also of Bay City, waived his right to a preliminary exam and faces a May 24 hearing in front of Circuit Judge Mark Duthie.

Both men are charged with possession of marijuana, a one-year misdemeanor; and being caught for a second or subsequent time, a two-year high court misdemeanor.

Police could smell marijuana when they approached the men's car, according to court documents.

Both men agreed to allow a search, according to an affidavit filed by Tribal officers.

Love at first denied smoking the joint, but later admitted it.

"I guess I was. I might have took one hit, I guess," he told officers. "I did not inhale. I'm not high."

Both men are free pending further court action.
