A man was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct and growing marijuana Tuesday after his fiancé accused him of trying to strangle her, police said.

Nineteen marijuana plants were found in their Chandler home, police said.

Ford Taylor, 22, had a medical marijuana card but exceeded the growing limit of 12 plants, police said. He also had $2,500 of stolen equipment in their yard and in a shed used for cultivating marijuana, according to police reports.

Police said the equipment was from Botanicare, a local supply company that had growing equipment stolen in November 2011. Inventory tags verified they were taken at that time and the fiancé told police she believes Taylor may have been a part of the burglary, according to police.

Chandler police were first called in February 2012 when the victim was taken to Chandler Regional Hospital with a bloody, injured nose and bruises resembling finger and hand marks on her body, police said.

The victim told police she had been choked and beaten, but did not want to go forward with the investigation so her fiancé would not go to jail, police said.

On May 12, police responded to a call at the home of the victim's sister-in-law. Officers were told that the Taylor reportedly choked the victim with his hands, rammed her head into the tile floor, headbutted her face and bit her upper lip, police said.

The victim was brought to the Mesa Center Against Family Violence, where a forensic nurse documented 26 separate bruises and abrasions on the victim's body, according to police reports. She was transferred to the Arizona Regional Medical Center after complaining of trouble breathing and a severe headache, police said.

The next day, the victim told police she wished to cooperate with the investigation, and directed police to the room where the marijuana was grown on May 14, according to police reports.

On May 22, Taylor surrendered to police, police said.

Assholes and idiots use cannabis too. Would the story have been written the same if he were fully legally compliant?

Of course it is wrong to abuse anyone. Based on what this woman has done to him, I can see why she might be prone to getting choked.
