When Dwayne Jones was arrested for bringing 10 grams of marijuana into Cook County Jail last year, he denied the drugs were his.

On Tuesday, the former correctional officer admitted he brought the cannabis to work and was sentenced to 18 months probation.

Sheriff's officers searching Jones' bag after they were tipped off about the contraband also found a cell phone, charger, earphones and DVDs of the Discovery Channel series "Cook County Jail" and MSNBC's "The Squeeze," which focuses on the roles of the sheriff's gang intelligence officers, authorities said at the time of his arrest.

Officers are not allowed to have electronics while at the jail. Jones, who was on probationary status since he had been on the job for less than a year, was immediately fired.
