Christmas Buds! Mid 1990's strain: Anyone remember and know what strain?

Started an account just so I could post on this thread lol. Try Hazeman's Pine Tar Kush, a LOT of people are saying this is XMAS bud, super cheap so worth a look. Hope it's the same thing you're looking for. Instagram him @infinitygenetics

Wow!! Thank you for the lead! I just messaged him now so hopefully I will get some feedback and even more importantly, those long sought after pine flavored buds :)

I also just recently picked up some "christmas OG" from a local dispensary.... although it was really good, super stoney and flavored great, it wasn't the christmas buds I was looking for. it had a pine flavor, but more skunky too.

Glad I could help :) keep me updated! He's a good breeder so no matter what you'll get something decent I'm sure. Plus he has a good selection otherwise. Story goes it's from an old pack he got already opened with Pine Tar Kush written on it. Which is an old Tom Hill strain, but it could have very well been mislabeled. Good luck!

I've actually posted a similar thread in about 5 different cannabis forums trying to seek out the christmas buds origin, and there has been a few mentions of Tom Hill's pine tar kush. I've looked all over to find beans or a lucky clone but no success so if they have them available, I definitely will be picking some up. I really miss those pine flavored strains of the 90's....

I remember Christmas bud, Up here in New England it came around December and it was seed free and cost more than other bud but it was strong. No idea where it came from because the guy who got it kept quiet . I also remember lambs breath from the 80's and Williams Wonder from the early 90's

I looked into the story behind the Pine Tar Kush, as well as Hazeman and that seems to be the story from other forums, and that Hazeman is the one who has the original Christmas Bud strain... PTK... well lets say that I reached out to him and I excitedly will be testing out some PTK very soon. Thank you so much for the lead on Christmas bud... I literally have been looking for this for years and now have that opportunity to have it :) Thank you :) BTW follow my journal and you will see them in action in the near future :)

Let us know how it goes, Icemud (!!).
Imagine the glory - bringing back the beloved Christmas bud.
Imagine the zombie-like hordes of Christmas bud addicts stalking you if you do...

I'm about to pop a couple seeds someone kindly sent me last year - acquired from their father that he labelled 'Christmas bud'. A long shot but worth a try. What you've got going on sounds way more promising. Good
luck dude. :thumb:

Thanks Weaselcracker!

I'm hoping that all the stories and leads prove true and this is some piney goodness of the 90's :)

4 seeds put into water and soaked for 18-24 hours.... 3 popped without any assistance and are now in soil. 1 needed a little help so I took out a knife and scraped the edges where the seed cracks open to give it a little help and within 3 hours, the 4th seed popped :) so far a success. Now is the waiting game for them to pop out of the soil and say hello :) so excited :)

Now I have to figure out which strains that I will be getting rid of as I have too much on hand... very tough choice as all of the ones I have I kept for a reason :) oh well, out with the old, in with the new :)

Starting to wonder if it had a long,,long flowering time.I tried everywhere to get Dr.Grinspoon, finally got a 5 seed pack in the original Barneys Farm package.Barneys Farm didn't even list it anymore.
My theory was the 100 plus days of flowering. With the changes in marijuana laws it seem more are going for shorter flowering times for their commercial aspect. They call Dr.Grinspoon an heirloom sativa strain. We may lose a lot of old strains to commercialism.
Dr. grinspoon isn't it. Screams haze, spicy smell and earthy taste. Most definitely not rage against the machine/ bone thugs blaring xmas bud! Lol

Hey no problem! Congrats on the testers! I haven't popped any Hazeman gear yet but I have a bunch and hear nothing but good things.

I have another lead for you in case you're interested, CSI Humboldt aka Pirates of the Emerald Triangle (@csi_humboldt on instagram) has '79 xmas bud crosses right now. I know they released the pure IBL at one point, not sure if they were anything more than testers though you might be able to grab some if you talk to them a bit. A couple of the crosses sound good, from what I've seen so far they have: durban poison, trainwreck, purple urkle, triangle kush, irene kush, girl scout cookies, chem 91, black death, mendo purple, big sur holyweed.

So how are the little ones doing?? I have some CSI gear going right now, chem d x humboldt snow aka dirty snow :D They're stinking real good I just did my first top on them at the 5th node. I can say they're super hardy after what they went through as seedlings LOL

This sounds a lot like the stuff a relative used to grow in the UP of Michigan. Tasted and smelled just like a pine tree and left you with a happy perma grin buzz that lasted for hours with just a hit or two. Best buzz ever! But this was always gold and blonde in color, no green so unfortunately I don't think it's the same :( My relative no longer grows and I have never found anything like that since the mid 90s. Hence my stumbling upon this site in search of that long lost golden glow. Guess I'll just have to see if he had a name for it the next time I'm up there. If I get any info, I'll be sure to share. Good luck.

I had a college friend that came from Ann Arbor and she always talked about a strain that they got that was gold/brown in color and was absolutely amazing. I can't remember what she used to call it but she said the same thing that it was golden brown/blonde and was that stuff everyone wanted....

I wish I could remember the name of it... I think it had Golden in the name... like Golden Goat or something... LOL

Icemud's 2018 Journal: Pine Tar Kush pheno hunt and more...

I actually reached out to CSI and they have the same thing that I have.... 79xmas bud. Hazemans Pine tar kush is 79 christmas bud according to ChicagoJoe, a member on a different forum. The story, according to ChicagoJoe on THCfarm.. says that NDNGuy was the one who originally had 79Xmas bud, as well as other strains. He gave his genetics to ChicagoJoe for a recreation project to make more seeds and spread the genetics. ChicagoJoe didn't have time or something to do the project so he gave the 79xmas bud to another guy, I think his name was DocD or something like that. He is the one that supposedly did the recreation project in which then he gave out seeds, one of those people being hazeman (according to the story on the other forum). Somewhere in the process they were mislabled, or called Pine Tar Kush but they are in fact 79Xmas Buds... So I have the same thing as CSI is breeding with right now...

I did reach out to CSI to see if they were interested in trading gear, we chatted a bit but they never answered me about trading gear. After I found out I have the same thing though I never followed up with them.

I did find, on a different forum, another grower who has the original Pine Tar Kush stock from Tom Hill, which is the actual legit pine tar kush. Unfortunately he did a recreation project about a year ago and won't be doing another for a couple years. I am trying to see if maybe one of the lucky recipients of his recreated PTK would be willing to spare some... but haven't had luck yet...

Also, yesterday I came across another potential "Christmas Tree Bud" strain, called Mighty Mite, which was popular around the same times. Its a short indica which a pine flavor and also carries the ruderalis trait of autoflower (sometimes). I will have to do more research on this but also worth looking into.

I am popping some Santa Sativa right now. Maybe not the true xmas bud I have been looking for.

But it does sound pretty close. I will let you know how it goes...

Dinafem - Santa Sativa: A high performer on every level
Santa Sativa by Dinafem is a very potent fast finishing sativa strain, that has become a firm favorite among lovers of Haze. This predominantly Sativa superstar shines brightly, brandishing dense resinous buds with a heavenly scent. To create this exceptional specimen, Dinafem crossed a Haze#1 and a (Skunk x Northern Lights). Resulting in a premium pot hybrid, bound to impress Sativa devotees and cannabis connoisseurs alike.

Capable of being grown indoors and out, Santa Sativa stretches to monstrous heights. Under an experienced hand, she will explode, soaring to a astronomical 4.5 meters tall! Comparable in many ways to the ever-popular Moby Dick, as she share its skyscraper-esque physique. If you're looking for a strain that is adaptable as well as powerful, then look no further than Santa Sativa.

An absolute beast in every way, shape and form, Santa Sativa brings a real sack-load of bud - arriving before Christmas (yay!). Outdoor growers can expect to be harvesting from late October/early November - but how much? Well, grown under optimal conditions she is capable of producing an incredible 1300g (per plant) of high quality cannabis. Indoor growers needn't feel left out, for once she has completed her 70-80 day flowering period, expect to be bestowed with a yield totaling around 500g/m².

Flaunting a pungent (but pleasant smell), Santa Sativa fills the room with a delightful mix of lemon, cedar, incense and pine. This authentic cocktail of flavors and aromas help to enhance the strain's long-lasting cerebral buzz to no end. Once you've inhale her smooth smoke, Santa Sativa delivers you a mind-blowing present - one that has bouts of euphoria, ecstasy and clarity. Rich in THC goodness (16-20%), she ensures users experience a high of insurmountable delight. The perfect marijuana strain to share among friends.

Yeh Mighty-Mite. We used to grow that up here (northern BC). I doubt if it's what you're looking for. Solid indica. We liked it cause it would finish fairly early. They were small and had a sort of autoflowering tendency. Before most of us knew about autos being a possibility. Maybe LowRyder auto had been invented by then but I never heard of it or saw it and that's just as well because I wouldn't have wanted to smoke it...
I don't remember the smell of the MMs that well but don't have any vivid memory of it being extra piney.
I had a bunch of MM seeds in my freezer I tossed a few years back thinking I'd never grow it again. Maybe I have some MM crosses in there still. Had a bunch but cleared out most of that jumble at one point...

My impression in hindsight is that the Xmas bud stuff was more sativa- from the effect and also the harvest time which was late and meant it didn't hit the streets till you know when

Very interesting description, I've never heard of santa Sativa, but the flavor palette they describe sounds delicious :)

Oh interesting that's similar but slightly different to the story I heard haha. Are you testing for Hazeman now? I have been told his Deep Chunk aka Monkey Balls is not the original Tom Hill's Deep Chunk. Gonna watch your journal for these!

Yea I'm running the Hazeman Pine Tar Kush Aka 79' Xmas Bud.

Where did you hear about the Deep Chunk not being real? I looked all over but didn't see that... do you know what it is instead?

Man, now I'm wondering how many other of his seeds aren't what they are supposed to be. He seems to have overall a great reputation from what I have gathered but now I am wondering.
