City Fines Marijuana Dispensaries In Beaumont

Despite a city-imposed moratorium on marijuana dispensaries in Beaumont, two were cited last week for operating in violation of the city's municipal code and California law, officials said.

The Beaumont Patients Collective Association, which operates out of a nondescript retail space in the 1100 block of Beaumont Ave., and Oak Tree Alternative Care in the 200 block of E. 6th St., are being fined $100 a day. The fines began Aug. 12, city officials said.

According to Oak Tree Alternative Care Co-director Art Moreno, of Beaumont, his organization has been "providing medical cannabis for only patients with a doctor's recommendation" since Aug. 7. He said nearly 200 patients regularly use the facility to obtain medical marijuana.
