Cylde dropped his bag on the kitchen table as he walked in, kicked off his shoes without untying them and headed straight for the couch where he plopped down and grabbed the remote. He started to turn on the TV, but stopped and paused as he realized there probably wasn't anything good on at four in the afternoon. Nothing he wanted to watch, anyway.

Instead, he reached towards the shelf between the couch and the wall and grabbed his small bowl, not waiting any longer to catch a buzz. After all, Clyde had just gotten off from work and he had to really fight through traffic just to keep up with the pedestrians. Time to de-stress! He sank back into the cushions of the couch and lit the green in the pipe while he gazed through the windows at the view of New York City just across a neighborhood or two. Clyde lives in Brooklyn and watches Manhattan through the glass as if it were another world.

The musky smoke reminded Clyde of rotting planks of a seashore pier as it wafted through his lungs. He inhaled fresh air behind his hits and let it mix with the flavor of the tasty bud he burned before he exhaled fully and sank further into the couch. The city seemed at once to get bigger while retreating into the distance, losing itself in the shadows of the setting sun. Soon, Clyde put his small wooden bowl back where it belonged and started thinking about his next task, which was to watch his younger brother and a few friends of his for the evening.

It had been a while since Clyde saw his brother Lloyd, and so he was looking forward to having him come over. It would also be the first time Lloyd visited him without their Mom being around. Clyde had never met Lloyd's friends, but had a few activity ideas that he was sure they'd all like. He had gone to a crafts store and found a lot of fun markers, pens, and paints that the kids could all play with. Clyde would even give them all a short lesson on creativity.

Cleaning his apartment and cooking dinner took Clyde some time, but his brother didn't arrive until 7pm anyway. The timing worked out pretty well, and just as Lloyd and his friends rang the doorbell, Clyde was taking out his homemade pizza from the oven. The kids came in and started telling Clyde about their trip right away, it was the first time that Lloyd had taken the subway without his parents and that made it a little more meaningful. He got all of the transfers right and was even talking about catching an express train across the platform. They all got a little quieter once they started eating, but that didn't last too long.

After everyone helped clean up, they all went into the living room area where Clyde had pushed the furniture against the wall. Everyone sat in the middle of the room and Clyde handed out pads of paper to each kid. There was Benji, Adrian and Scott, as well as Lloyd and then of course there was Clyde. Everyone also picked something to work with from the pile of colorful materials. Lloyd and Scott picked out markers, Adrian wanted paint, and Benji got a tray of colored pencils. Clyde...yes, you guessed it, he used Crayons.

[I'm laughing at myself here for not yet knowing how I want to introduce that concept for real]

Stay tuned for the next segment of the story, where Clyde's lesson about creativity leads the kid's imaginations to places that seem more real than they expected...
