A Laporte hemp farm will host a five-course dinner and cannabis pairing Aug. 31.

Hosted by Blue Circle Research Farm and sponsored by Fort Collins dispensary Organic Alternatives, the dinner will feature different marijuana flower strains, edibles, extracts and vape cartridges specifically picked to pair with each food and drink course. Some hemp oils and seeds without any THC will be infused in the food.

"We think of it like any other wine, beer or cocktail pairing out there," said Maka Kalai, director of sales and marketing for event sponsor Organic Alternatives.

Tickets to the dinner are $200 per person. Because all marijuana sales in Colorado have to take place in a licensed dispensary, a $25 goody bag with all of the cannabis pairings for the evening must be picked up at the Fort Collins Organic Alternatives dispensary at 346 E. Mountain Ave. in advance of the event.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m., with shuttles available from Fort Collins and Boulder. Attendees can also drive themselves to the 3430 W. County Road 54G farm.

The dinner with 100 total seats is expected to sell out – email kendal@masonjareventgroup.com for the latest ticket information. The event includes a farm tour and live music performed by The Good Kind.

Chef Melissa Harrison of a farm-to-table catering company called Seasonal Montana will handle the menu. She previously worked in Boulder kitchens.

"As a chef you are always looking to push yourself to the next level," Harrison said. "This is a great challenge for me and my staff members. It has been lots of fun to work on this and put the menu together."

The pairing dinner is organized by Boulder-based cannabis event planning company Mason Jar Event Group, which has organized similar events throughout Colorado.

Attendees will consume marijuana products at their own pace.

"You find all walks of life at these events," said Kalai, who has attended other marijuana pairing dinners. "It is pretty refreshing to be around like-minded people where it isn't a negative thing for people to be consuming cannabis."
