Medical marijuana dispensaries in Colorado Springs are allowed to remain open two hours longer, after a vote Tuesday by the City Council.

Previously, the city's 130 dispensaries had one of the earliest closing times--7 p.m.--in the state.

But dispensaries now may close no later than 9 p.m., still several hours earlier than the state limit of midnight.

"The marijuana task force asked us for this," said Bret Waters, the city's deputy chief of staff. "There also was some support for a 10 p.m. closing time. We're not comfortable with that yet. We want to wait a few months and see how this goes before we consider any more changes."

Council members discussed the matter in depth during a work session earlier this month
