Pueblo, Colo. - Fifty applications for marijuana dispensaries are sitting and waiting for business owners to pick them up at the Pueblo City Clerk's Office.

"They can get licensed probably even like April, May if they pass all inspections," said Pueblo City Clerk, Gina Dutcher.

The City Council passed an ordinance allowing eight dispensaries within city limits and Dutcher says the faster they get this process over, the better.

"The bottom line is the sooner we get them open, the sooner we can start collecting sales tax," Dutcher said.

Leaf On The Mesa has already established themselves in Pueblo County and they are one of the many local dispensaries hoping to get one of the eight spots within the city.

"(We) found a couple of locations within the city that would work great for us, our next step is to get the state license and then with the state license then apply for the city license after that," said Ieshia Jiron, the general manager of Leaf On The Mesa.

City Council decided to give more points on applications from local businesses that are in good standing and are involved in the community.

'Whether you live in the city, whether you reside in the county, how long have you been operating a facility, how long have you been in the business?" Dutcher said.

The clerk's office says they are expecting applications from all over the state, but Jiron said they will just try their hardest to get a store front.

"Yeah it's definitely going to be a struggle and you know it's going to be a competition but we'll work through it," Jiron said.
