The Colorado Springs marijuana task force met several times over the last few months to find solutions to reign in what members say is a medical marijuana industry in the city that has grown out of control.

Colorado Springs city council passed a six-month moratorium on the medical marijuana industry last November. The task force made recommendations to city council Monday afternoon.

Those recommendations include:

1. Increasing the minimum distance between a medical marijuana facility and a school or childcare facility from 400 to 1,000 feet.

2. Zoning changes for licensed medical marijuana grows

3. Limiting the number of plant grows to 12 per household

4. A person found guilty of growing more than 12 plants inside a home could face up to 189 days in jail, a $2,500 fine and/or probation

Colorado Springs City Council members will vote on the recommendations April 12.

Colorado voters passed Amendment 20, legalizing medical marijuana in 2000.
