Proponents of legalizing medical marijuana in Connecticut say this year's version of the legislation addresses many of the concerns that have been voiced over the years.

Erik Williams, executive director of the state chapter of the National Organization to Reform Marijuana Laws, said Wednesday the proposed medical marijuana bill in Connecticut is the best in the country.

The bill proposes a specific system for licensing medical marijuana producers in Connecticut, dispensing the drug and registering qualified patients with debilitating medical conditions.

Williams said his organization would like to see minor changes to the bill that include keeping manufacturers in Connecticut and requiring licensed pharmacists on-site or on-call at dispensaries during all operating hours.

Opponents have argued the legislation sends the wrong message to young people.
