Copperrein's Sponsored BESTVA LED & Homegrown Cannabis Co Triathlon Of Sativa

@copperrein Hey mate, how's it going :high-five:
Not going to fill your inbox with blue thumbs (sounds a bit weird but you know what I mean) :thumb:
& I hope you don't me busting over uninvited, but just had a look through what your doing & :bravo: your garden looks amazingly lush!

Nope, all are welcome! Thank you so much!

@copperrein
Pressing the leaves man.. totally forgot about doing it.. looking good anyway mate..
what are you doing your close up shots of the trichomes with? You've probably already mentioned it, but I'm too baked to search back over. I keep getting side tracked.. ooooohhh!!! That's what I was going to mention..... The starling, aren't they meant to be able to mimic whistles and tunes??
Oh! Did it find any bugs in your ear?

Yes, starlings learn to mimic all sorts of stuff. I've been playing jazz and folk for Sparks and he sits on the head of John's banjo whenever he plays. We're both so stupidly in love with the little fatty. He's sassy <3 No bugs in my ears, thankfully.

For trichomes I got a $30 usb microscope off the zon and just use my ghetto porn chromebook. For the closeup but not microscope shots I'm still using the kit 18-55 that came with the Nikon. As soon as more fireworks funds come in and we take care of some needs around here, I want to get the Nikon AF-S DX Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G Close-up Lens (i just cut and paste that). It's kind of a macro but not super macro-y. I think it'll be the best lens for doing the focus stacking I do with some of the hyper-detailed shots.

Girls are sitting at 6.0. I'm thinking Sweet Island is almost ready. I'll add her trichome photos on the end. OH...my dumb ass chopped a big bud off Dream Queen. I thought she had mold on the bud...looked at it with a loupe...NOPE...just lots of trichomes.

Aluminum toaster boat? :cheesygrinsmiley:
You told me about this technique but I have forgotten now. I only have a little convection toaster oven. Would that work?

What do you think about the trichomes on Sweet Island? I think I'm not seeing the milkyness of them because the tiny little light in the scope is so close to them when I photo. I see ambers right now and I specifically looked in places I know I haven't touched or bumped so they should be naturally aging trichomes?

According to breeder guidelines I'm 9 days out from the start of the planned harvest window. Can a strain finish early? This is where my noobishness with cannabis really shows...I don't feel I have a good eye for when a plant is ready.

Um, not sure how I would do it but yes, I think a toaster oven would work, just don’t decarb it! Lol. I think you have a lot of clear with a little cloudy and a few amber here and there on Sweet Island. I think you should focus on the trichromes on the buds vice the leaves. I’m a sativa kinda gal so I really don’t want much amber in my trichromes. I use my phone camera to check them and if that were my plant I’d say give it another week (but look at them daily). I think you still have some pistils that are standing straight up and white, correct?

pH: 6.0
EC: 4.4

I think I might be starting to see late flower chlorosis in Maracuya! It's be nice to get a colorful harvest, something other than blue and purple.

The tent is definitely funky smelling. It's hard to pick out individual smells since the whole thing just hits me in the face with a fermenting fruit smell. If it wasn't a tent full of weed I would think I have a bowl of plums going past their prime.

Good morning!

So I didn't update much yesterday because I watched Outlaw King the night before and while being an amazing movie, the violence and bodily injury was a little too real. It triggered some memories and as a result I had two strong night terrors. They're a waking dream, but as if you were under the influence of paralysis while being hunted by a looming black crushing force. I haven't had one in years and waking up out of one feels like about 30 minutes after a car crash when the shock starts to wear off.

I had pulled a small cola from Sweet Island the previous day as a tester. I smoked half a cone and whoa. Not the best life choice. The big hollow crater left in my chest by the terrors did go away, but the sativa effects on top of the jangles wasn't a great mix. It felt nice, it felt really nice. Sweet Island hilariously causes waves...like I was on a fucking boat. I had the expanded consciousness happening while still being all hollow feeling and post-shock from the night before. I ended up just sleeping it away and woke feeling like coming out of anesthesia. Very blah. MOSTLY my pre-existing mind state but yeah...I think the Dream Queen (Green Crack) would have been better suited.

Anyhoo, I'm fine and the experience taught me about the plant. Or did the plant teach me about my self? (said in Bruce Lee's voice).

Sweet Island is getting chopped today. New stigma growth stopped this weekend and the tester I smoked yesterday says she's ready. The tent's gonna look weird missing one plant.

Dream Queen is getting close and will prolly be ready by the weekend. The tent lights aren't on yet but the plan is to start whacking in about 10 minutes, giving me 15 minutes to harvest before the tent lights come on. WISH ME LUCK

Ugh, the roots look like shit. No root rot, just rust staining. I think most of the roots are still in the res which prolly isn't going to serve me well. We'll see.

They're just not bushy. Not as bushy as I want them to be. They look like Riff Raff's head from Rocky horror. Blah.

This plant smells so stupidly good like all the tropical flowers and fruits. @Prescription Blend I'm getting a little fish smell, could that be from the kelp? It's not bad fishy just more of a fresh ceviche smell (wtf is there not-fresh ceviche, Stephanie? Did that even make sense?)

I don't want to talk shit but these plants (seeds from Homegrown, a sponsor) just grew better than my first few batches from the bank that must not be named (rhymes with Deedsman). They germinated waaaaay faster, didn't have any pre-veg wonkies, and the breeder timeline was nearly spot on.

I need to think about my hydro. I've been reading Ed Rosenthal's section on hydro and I'm kinda feeling pulled towards those grodan blocks with drip irrigation in a flood table. Those systems just seem elegant. One thing I'm leery of is that it seems most people are growing clones in the rockwool cubes. Is there a reason I don't see a lot of people starting seeds in it?

I'm also like 'BUT COCO MAKES SHIT EASY'. Fuck. Hey @Rexer how'd your roots do in them Bucket Company thingos?

The 'fuck around, find out' voice in my head is like 'grow in soil indoors! It'll be fun!'. No, that sounds fucking awful. I'm forgetful and loathe dealing with pests. Props to you people growing soil inside...I suspect I'd just end up owning a thrip farm.

Hey @copperrein, congratulations on the harvest! :yahoo:

Grodan/rockwool cubes can be good. I've got a couple of the big blocks that I will play with at some point, just to see and push things.
The biggest personal drawback from rockwool is its ability to retain liquid. It retains it a bit too well. I've got tons of rockwool starter cubes, they work great...but you have to be careful otherwise you can get dampening off. I lost a few seeds to dampening off- which is why I moved away from them- but they help develop crazy good roots. The best method I've seen from a guru on here was to use a rapid rooter, then once that's rooted drop it into a larger block (it was used in a ebb and flow using 5 gallon buckets).

As for my roots- I've yet to check them. Been too busy the last bit, for harvesting I've just brought the whole bucket over to the trim station I setup...and start clipping at the branches. I'll probably be working on cleaning out the buckets this upcoming week and will get a look see.

@Prescription Blend I'm getting a little fish smell, could that be from the kelp?
I can’t say what would be giving you that smell, we certainly do not use fish (or any other animal parts) to make our nutrients. Kelp-ful does have a smell reminiscent of the ocean, does you bottle of kelp-ful have the same smell you find in your tent?

Those roots look pretty decent to me and after this long in a shared res tank I’m not surprised you had to pull them out like that.

Breeder timelines can be hit or miss but it seems like you got pretty accurate info for these strains. It is certainly possible for a plant to finish early or go late but it also has a lot to do with the growers preference for when they want to cut and how you like your trics.

If your considering Rockwool slabs, make sure you have a plan for the slabs post grow because unlike coco or peat media, you can’t just dump Rockwool into your yard.
