Cop's Wife Prepares Meatballs With Secret Ingredient: Marijuana

A police detective with 22 years of service says his wife dished him up a hardy plate of meatballs spiked with marijuana hoping to push him into early retirement. The detective had recently been assigned to a Joint Terrorism Task Force but was suspended after testing positive for drugs. Apparently, the wife believed the spiked meatballs, and early retirement, could save her husband from harm.

A judge responsible for hearing the case believed the detective's story, recommending this week that he be reinstated to duty.

According to a report in the AP, Anthony Chiafalo's wife admitted to making the intoxicating meatballs. During an investigation, she said that she simply substituted marijuana for oregano.

The police detective's lawyers presented the results of a lie-detector test taken by Chiafalo's wife as evidence.

"We can't comment because the matter will still come before the police commissioner for a final determination," said a spokesman of the police commissioner, Paul Browne.

No charges have been filed against the wife.
