Cronic Pain Is My Life

Hey, sketcher, I'm of the opinion that there's no such thing as an old thread on the internet, so welcome. :)

It wasn't until the Zohydro controversy that I read about how many pain patients are treated by general practitioners, who do not (and cannot afford to) require the same "security" processes that many patients go through with a pain specialist. Now, even more pain patients are being farmed out to expensive specialists as more doctors refuse to treat chronic pain. Soon, a lot of doctors will refuse to treat any kind of pain with opioids. Although I hope that doesn't happen... no one will go to the dentist again.

It used to be that chronic pain patients were not victimized intentionally, but I don't think you can say the same today. However, the Veteran's Administration has recently changed their policies for chronic pain patients already on opioid therapy, allowing VA doctors to actually recommend medical cannabis for chronic pain. And patients don't have to quit one to try another. Sometimes, progressive moves in health care can be tracked from the VA to the mainstream -- if military doctors agree about medical cannabis, that allows other doctors to play follow the leader.

I'll just add on this thread that many anti-drug folks will say that long-term opioid therapy hasn't been proven to work, and I would guess that most chronic pain patients know how untrue that is. These ignoramouses go on to say that this treatment causes more harm than good, which I also disagree with. Chronic pain patients have so very few choices for treatments that work, and all options should be available for patients to experiment with and stay on if they so choose. It's always a combinations of treatments that work best for chronic pain, but it's also important to be able to switch from one treatment to another -- if it becomes ineffective or causes too many side effects.

The next time you hear someone spout this nonsense, just use this search term in Google:

Opioid Treatment 10-year Longevity Survey Final Report
Patients in this study were found to be functioning quite well after 10 or more years on generally stable opioid dosages

@ 420 Motoco,
I take it you produce your own oil?
Where I live I have been able to legally procure what is marketed as a "pure" CBD oil (no THC). Following the prescribed instructions for use I have found this to have no pain relieving effect what so ever, nor does it relax me or put me to sleep in any way.

If legit (sure hope so), I suspect the oil I have is actually CBDA oil and needs to be decarbed? If so, any info on temp vs time for CBD? (Can only find info for THC).

Vis vobiscum.

Hi OMeWan,

Yes I produce my own oil. What are the prescribed instructions if you wouldn't mind sharing? Would this CBD oil be made via C02? I have a friend with Parkinsons who purchased a gram of CBD C02 @ 61% potency (kind of a reddish amber color) and uses a 'cold' extract method. It did nothing for his pain because it wasn't decarboxylated (won't pass through the blood brain barrier). Its made for 'vaping'. It decarboxylates when vaporizes. The decarb takes a little longer with CBD only strains. The decarb temp is 250 degrees. The time varies depending on the surrounding ambient temperatures, how much oil is being decarboxylated etc. When the oil stops moving, the decarboxylation is complete. What was the strain/strains used?

This link will help you out;

Lots of good info. Hope this helps.

Hi 420 Motoco,

the oil is supposed to be administered sublingually starting with one drop (eyedropper type dispenser) twice a day, working up to max 10 drops per administration leveling off at the "individually" effective dosage. In my case 10 drops twice a day has no effect what so ever.
I do not know what extraction method was used but they claim it is a "gentle" method whatever that means :hmmmm:. The oil is a greyish-green/yellow in colour.
Again, I do not know what strain was used as that information is not supplied.

I will do a small sample decarb @ 250°(F) I take it? 250°C would probably just smoke the place up :)

Thank you :Namaste:

That is a very unusual color of oil. Eye dropper? Are we talking tincture? Have you checked out the 'dosing' tutorial? Cannabis Oil Dosing Tutorial: Tacking Method I really don't know what you have and a 'gentle' method doesn't explain anything. If its doing nothing for the pain taking 20 drops something is wrong. I would strongly recommend getting the correct RSO oil and taking it correctly. My concentrate is a 2-1 blend 2 parts high THC and 1 part CBD and a grain of rice size manages pain/chronic pain for 6-8 hours while healing other glands, etc. Strains are important also, why I was asking. Your in the right direction, just not the right oil in my opinion. Also when asking questions about the oil if the best answer was a 'gentle' method, doesn't sound right. Spend some time reading the 'make the oil' link and how to use the oil and you will see amazing results. The puzzling part if your oil was made for pain (cbd) with the dosing instructions you where given and 20 drops do nothing, leaves me suspect. Hope all works out. Get into those threads I provided links for. Best way nowadays do it yourself and get the real deal. Its easy and peace of mind what your taking.

Yes eye dropper. No, not a tincture, this is most definitely an oil, no alcohol or other solvents.

I have checked that link out and this stuff looks nothing like the stuff in the syringe, and the instructions that came with it... well you read those. This stuff has the consistency of ordinary cooking oil with a very distinct not entirely pleasant taste. Do your gums actually turn grey like the spots on the photo or is that manipulated to clarify dosing positions? Does not look appealing :(

I did a one dose (10 drops) decarb last night and tried that. Definitely makes a difference but a bit unexpected results.
Made my tongue go itchy/numb (like eating too many kiwi fruit or to much not quite ripe pineapple). 10 hours later my tongue is still numb. The pain was not alleviated but the accompanying "creepy crawlies" across by shoulders and back did go away for several hours. No sedative effects at all, in fact quite the opposite, have not slept at all this night. No euphoric effects either so no THC (as advertised).

I would strongly recommend getting the correct RSO oil and taking it correctly. I do plan to make my own oil just as soon as my first harvest comes in (2nd week of flowering atm).

Thanks for all your input :)

So getting to the actual point...I have tried a ton of strains but i always continue to search for the perfect one. I have surpassed the days of couch lock and smoke for entirely different reasons today although i love all medicines, sativa/indica/hybrids. So has anyone that continues to live in pain found that RIGHT strain that allows them to continue to be active, aware yet medicated just right?
I know this is an old post, I have found that black domina to be the best for my chronic pain and ptsd when in public. Moonshine haze is the best when I want to get stuff done around the house. Different people respond different ways. I would keep a journal if you havent already lol hope you find your holy herb.

Hi Michaels - I have a neurological disorder called Cervical Dystonia....over the past 25 years, I have researched different treatments and surgeries for my type of disorder - anyway, there is a promising surgery called Deep Brain Stimulation....my rare disorder is treated with similar meds that work with Parkinson's patients, both are movement disorders and for some patients, these two neurological disorders are being treated today with Deep Brain Stimulation.....

To control the ticks, shakes and spasms - electricity is passes between two areas inside the brain to control this activity....anyway, you might wonder how this could help with you chronic pain - from what I understand, there are neurologists using this technique (DBS) to control the pain control areas of the brain - like a pacemaker with a volume control....maybe watch some YouTube videos - these will explain Deep Brain Stimulation and hopefully you will find some relief.....

Search: Deep Brain Stimulation - chronic pain - University Health Network's Toronto Western Hospital

Take care,

Michael

You HAVE to MOVE OUT of OHIO. Ohio will nevere pass or will be one of the LAST STATES to have a MMJ program. Sorry to say this I feel for you as I'm also a CHRONIC PAIN patient but I am lucky to live in a MMJ State.

RE: Peace, Peace.....thank you for your reply!

I live in London, Ontario - Canada has just elected a new Federal Government.... 43 YR Old Justin Trudeau will form his new government November 15th., so hopefully he will go forward will one of his most important promises to decriminalise, or even better - legalise marijuana from coast to coast....I myself had my GP sign my MM forms last July, so today I am able to buy MM here in London, grown in Canada by Federally licensed growers.....years ago, BC Bud was well known across North America, when today - quality bud is grown and sold almost everywhere.

This time next month, life will be so much better for thousands of very sick Canadians - take care,

Michael

Michael I'm glad to see that you live in a GREAT and PROGRESSIVE country. Canada has gotten its shit together when it comes to MMJ. I wish you all the luck in the world that you can have.

Injured people with chronic pain, sick people with brain diseases and or cancer patients. We all need anti inflammatories that will help our minds and bodies heal. Big Pharma obviously does the opposite and keeps us sick. I am injured and would like to find a ingestible/sublingual form of CBD oil that may help my chronic pain. I do not smoke therefore I have few choices. I live in Riverside CA but have not found andy lab tested oil that I would even try without proper testing. You really have to do your research on all that is out there. Big Pharma works for now but long term gives you life long GI issues and liver issues. Is a vicious cycle. Would love to be free of pills. I can go for a month or two..have a bad night ( pillows hate me tried all kinds ) so i wake up like I just got injured. My injury is 5 yrs old. 15lb bin fell on my head crushed my cervical spine and tore a disc. Chronic pain ? Every day of my life until God calls me home. =)

Been there, to many times, hang in there, won't say it gets better, but I do know what it's like to be in so much pain your on the the floor crying in pain an can't take in anymore and just wanting it to end. At least you know why your in the situation your in. I'm in kind of the same situation and have been for over 2 years now, disabled. Well I know why actually been healthy, your age, sever fibromyalgia wiped me out in 2 years.
All these so called "experts" on rather marijuana has any redeeming qualities need to walk in my shoes and see if they can make the choises I have to make everyday. A bullet to the head OR break the law and take a couple hits.I have to make that choise everyday!!!!!!!!!!!
On 06/07/1999 I was on the job setting roof trusses on a condo unit my company was building. A "DAMN DRUNK" drsided we didn't need the main brace.[these were the biggest trusses I've ever seen,65' X 16'] I had just got my son down off the peek when I looked down to hear this as#$%^&*h$%^say"YOU DON'T NEED THIS" and he took his hammer and knocked the brace out and like dominoos the trusses come down on me. I side stepped the first 2 but the third one split my head open to the skull. the rest I took in the back, one after the other. I should have died and I had a conversation with God. [seemed like 20 min. even though it was seconds] I was aircared to the hospital. It shattered my lumbar 1 & 2 and smashed my 3 & 4. It took 13 hrs on the table to put me back together with a titanium cage.
Now let me skip to 2010. My pain doctors have not been able to get me below a pain level of 5 out of 10. I was doing 13- 80mm Oxycotins, 12- 30mm oxycodone , a double dose of celabrex and cymbalta, 12,000 mm of nurrotin.[i never took asprins growing up] I didn't even get a buss but it was easing the pain to a 5. Now when I can get my hands on a joint, I actually come alive and have a life. The problem was I came up with a dirty urine twice and my doctor cut me off , cold turkey. You can't imagine what that was like after a decade of doing these pills. Again a couple hits helped a little BUT when I tried to get a new doctor to treat me the first thing they did was a urine screen and I failed. I literally stayed on my couch, crying like a little 58 yr old cry baby. Well I finnally got a new doctor and after a year,I'm up to 200mm morfine 5-30mm oxycodone.Little help BUT I just failed 2nd test and he's kicked me to the curb with 30 day supply.I NEED OHIO TO STEP UP AND PASS S.B.74 or I'm afraid just getting my gun out of the house won't be enough.I don't deserve this and certinly not my wife . I have 5 children and 11 grandchildren to live for BUT as it stands now I don't even like them to see me like this.
I just wish I could find a doctor who really cares.

Hey buddy I was on a constant supply of oxys and whiskey every few hours for about 8 years solid. I started smoking 3 years ago and will not go back.

I know what pill depression is and I have spent many hours in a fetal position with tears running down my face there's no shame in that.

I decided I wanted to be normal again and my buddy who has degenerative spine disorder had me smoke a blunt with him while we were camping after not smoking for nearly 15 years. And the next week I got my marijuana card and 3 years later I haven't taken but maybe 6 norcos in that time frame.

I do primarily use edibles and topical creams for arthritis and knees and nerve damage in my lower back and shoulders. Topical will not show up in a drug test even if you bathe in it they don't work that way.

Me personally I'd find another doctor. After I found one that didn't want to just shove pills down my throat and suggested physical therapy and alternative medicines it caught my attention. I don't know if you are in the position I was but I was nearly 300lbs at 5'9" from the large amount of booze I was consuming and within and year I shed 80 lbs and gained back 6 and have held there. That's the first health benefit I found. Second is it helped me quit smoking. I smoked And dipped for 15 years and haven't had one in months.

One thing I will say tho. WEED DOES NOT MAKE THE PAIN GO AWAY. Remember that when you have severe bodily damage and chronic pain it won't go away but it does lessen considerably and make a normal life possible.
