BINGHAMTON, N.Y. A Binghamton-area sheriff's detective is on leave after state police found marijuana plants growing outside his home.

State police say troopers found several marijuana plants on detective Christopher Smith's Chenango Forks property after investigating a domestic dispute last week.

The Broome County Sheriff's Department detective was arrested today and charged with unlawful cultivation of the plants, a misdemeanor.

He was released and ordered to appear in court later this month.
